Like a lot of people, it took my mom a while to find out what she wanted to do in life. After many jobs and career paths were explored, she found her true calling. I asked my mom to describe the type of life coaching that she provides to her plethora of clients. She responded by saying that she provides “support and encouragement for my clients to be the best that they can be and live their lives to the fullest.” Through goal setting and goal achievement, she leads her clients down the right path in their situations.
Whether it be executive based or life-based coaching, guiding people by showing them a different perspective is her method. Many of her clients have said that she has offered a kind of “mind shift” by introducing the bigger picture. Client situations may vary, but when coaching her executive clients, the focus may be on employee management and solving a lack of leadership skills. By breaking up an overwhelming problem into bits and pieces, she advises clients on ways to attack these one by one.Â
Growing up, my mother was my biggest fan. Always doing everything she could to see that I achieved my goals. When she found this career path, I knew that it was meant for her and that she would find major success in this journey. When I entered high school, my workload started increasing, and my ADHD got worse. Tackling piles of homework at night would flood my brain and cause me to just freeze. She would come into my room to see me balling and tell me to just pause and create a list. To this day, as a sophomore in college, I use this technique, and I haven’t lost track of a thing.
My mother says, “people forget to dream.” This is such an important message when looking at her career and what she does for people. She allows a sort of unloading that can create space for dreams and goals. When working with her life-based clients, she mostly coaches them to begin realizing that their problems aren’t as big as they seem, which can be true in many people’s cases. We have such a fast-paced way of life that causes so much unnecessary stress. I asked my mom to describe the feeling that she gets when she helps a client achieve a goal. She gave me one word: ecstatic.
She elaborated to say, “I feel like it is my life purpose to help other people achieve their dreams. You can’t make anyone do anything, but once they take the first step in the right direction on their own, it is exciting to see.” My mother is an amazing person but an even better life coach. Seeing her find what she was meant to do and watching her change lives has been so inspiring. If you are an overwhelmed college student like me, maybe you could give my mom a call.Â
