With midterms steadily approaching I know I’m stressed out and I’m sure many of you are too. At a time like this where the midterm format is all online and I stare at my screen for hours a day, I’ve found a recluse in music. It is something I can go to when I need to distract myself from my crazy life or just to take a break from studying. With the countless papers I’m writing and the projects I’m working on, all in preparation for midterms, of course, it’s good to just take a break and listen to some good music. I’ve made a playlist to help me get through this overly stressful midterm season, and I hope it helps you too.
- “Fast Car” by Tracy Chapman
-
Starting off with Fast Car by Tracy Chapman. It’s my mom’s favorite song, and because of this, it has been drilled into my brain that it’s one of the best songs ever. It tells a beautiful story and is great to listen to when you just want to chill a little bit.
- “Little Lies” by Fleetwood Mac
-
Little Lies is a song I love to jam to in my car when I just feel like singing. It reminds me of being on campus in my freshman triple with a coffee from Starbucks in hand while grinding out a paper.
- “Under Wraps” by Her’s
-
Her’s is one of my go to bands when I want to listen to music when studying. Their music is not too distracting and keeps me very relaxed and focused.
- “Vienna” by Billy Joel
-
This song sounds like what a hug feels like. It’s one that makes you feel safe. It’s something you would sing while around a campfire with your best friends. It’s the perfect song for relaxing after a stressful week of midterms.
- “What a Feeling” by One Direction
-
“What a Feeling” makes me feel super uplifted any time I listen to it. After all of my midterms are done, I know I will be blasting this song and singing it at the top of my lungs.
- “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac
-
“Landslide” is a song I listen to when I need to just relax and not focus on schoolwork for a little. This song makes me feel at home no matter where I am.
- “She’s a Beauty” by The Tubes
-
“She’s a Beauty” makes me feel really happy and helps me stay positive even when I’m stressed out. It reminds me of the summer and a time where school is at the back of my mind.
- “Cherry” by Harry Styles
-
“Cherry” is a song that lets me relax a little bit while still keeping me determined when studying.
- “Midnight Sky” by Miley Cyrus
-
Much like a lot of other TikTok users, I’ve recently started to listen to Miley Cyrus again. “Midnight Sky” feels motivational and really pumps me up. I often listen to this song when I’m working out as well as before I start my classes for the day.
- “Wishing Well” by Juice WRLD
-
Juice WRLD is an artist I can listen to at any time, whether I’m feeling happy, sad, motivated, or unmotivated, he has a song for it. “Wishing Well” is a song that allows me to just sing and vibe with him while not worrying too much about the work I may have to complete.
- “Through the Dark” by One Direction
-
“Through the Dark” reminds me that my friends and family will always be there for me, no matter how stressed out I may be.
No matter if you’re a senior or a freshman, exams, papers and projects can cause a lot of stress. However, midterm season is only a small part of the full semester and I’ve learned to not stress too much about one big test. Studying hard and staying focused is what helped me do well on my midterms in the past, and music is there to help and center me. I’ve learned to value the playlists I make and use them to help me study and stay focused.
