As a high achieving woman, I take my self-care seriously. In the beginning, I was so used to taking care of business that I forgot my mental health was my business. After endless nights from waking up with my heart thumping against my chest and countless tears, I became frustrated with myself. I became self-critical. I hated the work I proclaimed to love. It was not until I engaged in self-care that I realized I am important to myself. I am going to say it for you. Your mental health is your business! Self-care is important and here’s why.Â
1. You give yourself that break (Duh!)Â
Self-care is one of those things that allow you to give time for yourself. You take a break from the world around you. Let your break be a real break. Don’t check any emails. Don’t read that text message. It’s time to decompress.Â
Â
2. Self-care allows you to clear your mind.Â
Now that you have time for that break, you get to learn…about yourself. There is time for you to explore yourself and ask important questions. You become in tune with your body and mind.Â
3. You get a moment for self-reflection.Â
When you are so wrapped up in the whirlwind called life, it becomes hard to learn about yourself. Self-care gives you a moment to check in with yourself and learn your limits. You set boundaries with yourself.Â
Â
4. You choose yourself.
There is nothing wrong with choosing you. It’s a win-win situation. Don’t be afraid to pick your needs over others. Self-care is the ultimate form of love. You learn how to love yourself in the way you choose. Â
Self-care is one of the best things you can engage in. There I will say it one last time for you. Your mental health is your business! Self-care is one of the best things you can do for yourself. If you engage in self-care, let it be glorious.
