there were lives I would’ve lived, beach soil in our toes,

running, slipping, laughing onto the runway of

anticipation, one-way ticket to the rest of time, our

summer of growing up; 

 

jealous glances shunted across the floor, blitzing like sequins on the skirt she never

bought; once dreamt dreams of debauchery we called growing up 

 

and then this life, the least likely scenario; a

summer of growing up requiems of cancelled

plans and our eternity paused 

 

you’re three lanes down but miles away; the

pixels of my screen like beach soil in your

hair, eyes twinkling like you’ve grown up
