Movies and TV shows have really been keeping me company during this quarantine. Whether it’s discovering something new or rewatching an old classic, it’s fun to just sit back and watch. During quarantine, I made the decision to re-watch a tv series which is a major throwback for me: “One Tree Hill.” For those of you that don’t know, the show is about two half brothers who face a rivalry when they both end up on the same basketball team. Ever since I discovered it on Netflix in 2015, I knew that this would be one of my favorite shows of all time. It’s now 2020, half a decade since I last watched it, and I have so many thoughts and opinions. So here’s my TV throwback review on One Tree Hill, in no particular order.

Naley is the only OTP

Yes I know, throughout the series there are so many couples that are formed, but for some reason, the relationship between Nathan and Haley is the most prominent one on the show. They’ve been through so much together, and the show does an excellent job of progressing the growth of the two characters and their relationship throughout each season.

Brooke Davis. Period.

Not going to lie, when I first watched the show, I wasn’t a fan of Brooke. I thought she was annoying, spoiled, uptight, and probably the worst character on the show. That being said, watching the show again gave me a completely different opinion of her. Throughout the beginning of the series, she was portrayed as a bad person, but when you watch closely from beginning to end, you start to realize that she has gone through so much in her life and therefore created a barrier so she doesn’t get hurt. Also, you start to also notice that she’s not only a strong individual, but also so kind and would fight for anyone and everyone she loves. Anyone who had her as a friend was so lucky. Also, this may be an unpopular opinion, but Peyton did NOT deserve Brooke’s friendship and I stand by that.

Jake Jagielski

Jake Jagielski will forever and always (or always and forever #iykyk) be my favorite character on the show. Enough said.

Keith Scott was the best father figure

Because Lucas didn’t have a good relationship with his real father, Dan Scott, he turned to his uncle Keith, who took care of him and was like a father figure to him. Keith was one of the best characters on that show and I will argue with anyone that says otherwise.

The series did play out for longer than it should have.

Don’t get me wrong. I love this show, and I could keep on watching it over and over again. However, I’d be lying if I said that there weren’t any problems with the show. For starters, it was quite long. Now that I think about it, watching the show back, 9 seasons seemed like a bit too much, and it started getting to a point where they needed to add random storylines just to keep the show afloat. Then again, if they had kept the series going, I would happily watch it all.

Quinn James is the sister/aunt that everyone wants

When Haley’s sister Quinn was introduced in season 7, she became one of my favorite characters. She was kind, empathetic to literally everyone, even evil Dan, and brought a humorous factor to the show as well. She was definitely a fan favorite.

Dan Scott’s storyline

First of all, I hated Dan Scott. He was the worst human being ever, and the fact that Lucas and Karen, and even Nathan and his mother for that matter had to be around him and see his face every day was so annoying. There is also a part in the show where he does something exceptionally unforgivable. Once he realizes that it was wrong, he tries to make amends without people realizing it was him. What made me so mad, was that he even tried to make Lucas’ mom think that Lucas was crazy, when he was not. In my opinion, the anger that I had towards some of the characters meant that the creators did a great job in developing them.

OTH had the BEST theme song/music

To end this on a high note, One Tree Hill’s theme song, “I Don’t Wanna Be” by Gavin DeGraw is an amazing song and one of the best theme songs I’ve ever heard. It’s also great to just sing your heart out to in the car, while on a road trip, in the shower, or just in general. In addition to that, because music was a big theme and storyline on the show as well, they had some amazing songs that are definitely worth a listen to.

In all, “One Tree Hil”l is a fantastic show and anyone who loves music, sports and drama should check it out. It can be found on Hulu and Amazon Prime and is definitely worth a watch!
