I don’t know how many people have been on TikTok during quarantine, but the skincare side of TikTok introduced me to some great products that I have been using since June! This is the first time in my life that I have had a consistent skincare routine, and honestly, there is a huge difference in my skin. I think I have maybe missed one night total, but other than that I have stayed on it with a four-step nightly routine.
Here is what my skin looked like before:
First Step:
I start by wiping my makeup off. I was informed by skincarebyhyram on tiktok that makeup wipes were not great for skincare, which is what I had been using to take my makeup off since I started wearing it! Instead, I switched to Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water and cotton rounds. These are cheaper, less wasteful, less harsh, last a long time, and also do a great job.
Second Step:
Once all the makeup is gone, I can then cleanse my face! I started out using a Mary Kay cleanser that was part of a kit I got last spring and I really enjoyed that product, but it, unfortunately, got lost in the move to Boulder! So recently, I switched to the CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser. It’s supposed to take around 21 days until you know that the skincare is working for you, so we’re still waiting to see on that one but so far I like it a lot. This product is for normal to oily skin which I would consider mine to be, but I’m still learning and discovering more ways to care for my skin! The important ingredients in this product are the ceramides, the niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid. These ingredients are also in my serums that I use and will go into more detail about what they do. It’s also fragrance-free and gentle!
Third Step:Â
After cleansing, I started using serums from The Ordinary. I’ve heard from a ton of people that these products are really great and they’re also inexpensive. I found both of my serums at Ulta and I’m using the niacinamide and the hyaluronic acid. Niacinamide is supposed to reduce the appearance of pores and helps with acne issues while hyaluronic acid is supposed to lock in moisture and keep your skin hydrated. A little goes a long way with these products and I have enjoyed using them!
Fourth Step:
Once the serums have dried, I finish off with a moisturizer. I’ve been using the CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion. Moisturizer is an important step in the routine even if you have oily skin because it can regulate oil production even if your skin feels like it is less dry! This product is especially for normal to dry skin, so again, it works with combination skin.
I’m not an expert, and this is just my experience trying out different products, but my skin is looking so much better since I started this and I would recommend them to others to try too! Sometimes skincare takes a few tries to find what works for you, but you’ll get there! Happy glowing!
