On the night of Friday, August 28th, millions worldwide were shocked to find out that actor Chadwick Boseman passed away after a long and private battle with stage IV colon cancer.

Boseman was known for his iconic portrayals as Jackie Robinson in “42”, Thurgood Marshall in “Marshall”, and most notably as T’Challa/Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the middle of his career, the SAG award-winning actor was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, which later progressed to stage IV later on. A statement was released to his social media accounts on the night of his passing.

A dedication and a tribute were held on the night of August 30th to honor the late actor. First, actress and singer Keke Palmer dedicated the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards to Boseman at the beginning of the show. A little after the VMAs, ABC aired a news special hosted by Robin Roberts titled “Chadwick Boseman – A Tribute for a King”.

Boseman became an American household name; not only was he seen as a fictional hero, but he became a true inspiration to so many. His name and legacy will live on in years to come.
