Known worldwide for his role as the current Spider-Man on Marvel’s movies, the british actor Tom Holland is a popular name nowadays. Be you a superheroes fan or not, the fact is that the carrier – and the charisma – of this 24 year old artist goes much further (and started much earlier) than the job as the friendly neighborhood character.
- Where Everything Started
-
Thomas Stanley Holland was born on June 1, 1996 in Kingston Upon Thames, London, and his first interests in the Art’s universe were related to dance. One of the four sons of the comedian Dominic Holland, he studied at The BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology, and took hip-hop classes in a dance school at Wimbledon. Since then, one of his biggests inspirations in dance is Michael Jackson.
With his talent, he joined Billy Elliot the Musical, becoming the lead character of it. It was also on the backstages of Billy Elliot where he had his first kiss– and, surely, enhancing his dancing abilities helped him to perform, years later, his iconic Lip Sync Battle of Umbrella, from Rihanna. Unforgettable, as well.
- First Role On The Big Screen
-
Already as an actor, you might remember him from a movie way before the Avengers era – The Impossible, which tells a story about a family who survived a tsunami in Thailand and is based on a real story. He played the teenager Lucas, and, through this role, Thomas won many awards from categories such as Best Youth Perfomance from NFCS Award, and Best Male Newcomer from the Empire Award UK.
- Bitten By The Spider
-
Tom Holland was “bitten by the spider” in 2015, when Marvel finally announced the british actor as the Spider-Man of MCU. At this time he was 19, being the youngest actor to perform the superhero: Tobey Maguire was 27 and Andrew Garfield was 29 when they started to work as the character.
His first moments as the Spider-Man on the screens happened in “Captain-America: Civil War”, released in 2016. He participated in the movie as Tony Stark’s partner, helping Iron Man team while stealing Captain’s shield during a battle and fighting against his group. Right after that, in 2017, the hero began a journey trying to officially join the Avengers during Spider-Man: Homecoming. By the time of his debut as the hero, Stan Lee, Marvel’s primary creative leader, revealed through a tweet that he was being perfect for the job: “He is the exact height and age I envisioned when I first wrote Spider-Man.”
- Behind The Mask
-
Homecoming was the first one role-played by Tom Holland and he totally conquered the public inside and out the story, with many funny moments during lives and interviews and accidentally giving some major spoilers about upcoming Marvel sequels. In one of the press events of Homecoming, Holland even brought his dog, Tessa, with him. He is not really keen on cats, because he is allergic and thinks they are kind of scary as well. That way, the blue staffy Tessa is one of his biggest partners, and he is always posting adorable pictures on Instagram showing his love for it.
Recently, the actor was confirmed as part of the cast of The Devil All The Time, a Netflix production featuring, besides Holland, Robert Pattinson, Sebastian Stan, Billy Skarsgard, among other famous names. It is going to be released on September 16th, and we cannot wait to see Tom Holland acting again – this time, without the spider mask.
