Having natural curly hair can be a struggle. In the past I hated wearing my hair naturally, I would straighten it every day to where my curly hair is no longer the same. As I got older I wanted to repair my hair and started to wear it natural. This was hard because my hair was so damaged from the heat and constant hair dying. A couple of months ago I tried out a new hair routine that has been helping me with my natural hair. It is not as curly as before but it still looks cute and I don’t have to straighten my hair all the time!

Brush Your Hair In The Shower

It is very important that you brush your hair while you are in the shower. I like to shampoo my hair and before adding a hair conditioner I like to section my hair. I brush each section and then proceed to add a hair conditioner to each section. I let the conditioner sit in my hair for about 3-5 minutes before rinsing it out. I prefer brushing my hair in the shower because the water will keep your hair curly. When I brush my hair after getting out of the shower, it gets poofy and the curls get brushed out. Brushing curly hair while dry can also lead to hair breakage.

Apply Leave-In Conditioner

There are four hair products that I like to use to help style my curly hair. The first product that I use when getting out of the shower is the Cantu Leave-In Conditioning Cream. The way I like applying this product is by sectioning my hair into multiple small sections and running the product through my hair with my fingers. You want to use a good amount of product but not too much because then your hair will get hard!

Apply Curling Cream

Next, I use the Cantu Coconut Curling Cream. I follow the same technique as I did with the leave-in conditioner. I section my hair then add a generous amount of product to each section with my fingers. Once again do not add too much of this product into your hair.

Apply Hair Gel

I also like to add gel to my hair in order for the curls to stay. I specifically use the Dove Amplified Textures Gel for curls and waves. I like to pump a generous amount of gel to the palm of my hand, rub my hands together, and then add it into my hair. I like to scrunch my hair with the gel from the ends of my hair to the roots. This will help create your curls.

Apply Hair Serum/Oil

The last product that I add is the Fantasia Carrot Serum hair polisher. I like this hair serum because it gets rid of the frizz in your hair, which you will have after adding all the previous products. Not only does this help get rid of frizz, it also helps grow and strengthen your hair.

Diffuse Hair

The last step to my curly hair routine is to diffuse my hair. You can use any blow dryer that comes with a diffuser attachment. Diffusing your hair eliminates frizz, keeps your curls or waves intact, and adds volume to your hair. To diffuse my hair I turn the blow dryer to high heat and high power. I then use the diffuser in up and down motions throughout different sections of my hair. I start from the bottom of my hair and scrunch the hair up to my roots with the diffuser. I hold it there for about 10 seconds. I also like to flip my hair facing the floor and do the same thing. This will help get the back of your hair. I repeat this until I feel like my hair is dry enough.

The key to revitalizing your hair is to be patient. I know the process can be frustrating, but it is worth the wait. Natural hair is beautiful and there are many ways you can style it. Embrace your natural curls!
