If you know me, then you know that I LOVE true crime, and if I’m not watching crime shows or movies, I am listening to a crime podcast. I wish I could say that I’ve always enjoyed more sophisticated podcasts, but that just wasn’t me… until now. I have finally discovered a podcast, and I hope you enjoy it just as much as I do.
So what is this podcast that I am so excited to talk about? It’s none other than Pretty Big Deal with Ashley Graham. Much like any other podcast, Ashley’s podcast is a conversation with a guest for us listeners to get as taste of. Muher guests are many people that are popular in today’s culture including: Emily Ratajkiwski, Serena Willams, and Kim Kardashian West. So what makes this podcast of a model interviewing other models and relevant stars so special? It’s the questions and the conversations she cultivates.
Ashley tackles questions of race, identity, pop culture, fashion and everything in between. One of my favorite interviews included Paloma Elsesser, another model in the fashion industry labeled as “plus size.” Paloma and Ashely discuss the industry’s lack of representation and its choice to constantly label individuals along with their journeys in the fashion world. I have always been a huge fan of Ashley’s, not only because she is an amazing model but because she is one of the more honest public figures on the internet. She does not shy away from the reality of the world and all its beauty (or lack thereof).
Another one of my favorite guests was Demi Lavato. Together she and Ashley tackled the topic of mental health, which is something Demi has worked hard to advocate for. Rather than feeling like a fly on the wall during this conversation, I actually felt as though I was included. The best feeling you get from this podcast is that you learned something valuable. Each episode gives you a small nugget of information to take away, whether it be a new way of looking at an issue or even bringing up a topic you may have never considered. Ashley Graham, along with her guests, invite you into a conversation that is just as meaningful as it is fun.
I never thought I would be writing an article about a podcast other than true crime, but this is the first podcast that I NEEDED to hear again and again. The beauty of this podcast, the guest, and Ashley herself is that it is meant to be honest and true and, best of all, comfortable and safe to hear from the people in today’s culture that inspire us more. As the title goes – it’s a pretty big deal.
*bonus! All episodes of the podcast are also on Youtube, so you can actually watch the full interview as well. *
