We are all living in unprecedented times. No one saw this coming, and no one could’ve predicted that we’d be in a global pandemic by March of 2020. The world may never be the same after this. If that thought terrifies you, you’re not alone.
Living under quarantine makes it really hard to feel connected while being isolated, but being physically distanced doesn’t mean you have to be emotionally distanced. If you’re reading this article, I think it’s safe to say that you might be in a relationship. Being in a relationship during the Coronavirus is hard. You may have gone from seeing each other nearly every day, to now not being able to see each other at all. And to make it even worse, this happened with no warning and no real chance to figure out how your new virtual stage of your relationship was going to work. I can assure you, you and your significant other are not the only ones dealing with this stress. Below are some fun tips to survive the quarantine as a couple.
- Don’t Stress About What You Can’t Control!
-
This seems like it goes without saying right? Well, not always. I often find myself getting very anxious about when I will see my boyfriend next. The main thing to remember is that stressing about something you have absolutely no control over will only make things worse. Try to take some deep breaths, maybe a long bath, or practice meditation and try to calm yourself down. Your feelings are valid, and the stress and anxiety you are feeling now will eventually pass!
- FaceTime is KEY!
-
Now this is a time where technology IS your friend. We are very lucky to live in a time where we can easily call someone and see their face. Emotions get lost in translation over text, so it is really important to maintain face-to-face communication, and since we can’t in person, FaceTime is the next best thing!
- Netflix and Chill
-
Yes, Netflix and Chill is still alive and well! One of my favorite virtual dates is to watch a movie or binge a show with my significant other while on FaceTime, Skype, or Zoom! Just press play at the same time and voila, it’s basically like you’re in the same room! Create a list of the movies or shows you’ve always wanted to watch with your significant other and make it happen. What better time to relax and binge than now?
- Travel the World
-
Virtually of course! There are virtual museums, zoos, and theme park tours from all over the world right now, so why not create a date night and explore some of these amazing places. The Louvre, Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, The Getty, San Diego Zoo, Monterey Bay Aquarium, and Walt Disney World are just a few of the locations participating in virtual tours! This could be a fun excuse to get dressed up and have a fancy date night with your boo.
- Go on a Social Distancing Date
-
If you live in the same town as your significant other and just can’t go any longer without seeing them, you could go on a RESPONSIBLE social distancing date. The key word here is responsible! If you are going to see your significant other keep your social distance, which means 6ft. Wear a mask and gloves to keep yourself and your significant other safe. These dates work best outside in the open air. Go on a walk or a hike together. This is a great time to indulge in nature, so get outside and adventure at a safe distance.
We are all going through hardships right now, but remember that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. You’re not alone, we will all get through this together! Take this time to be grateful and appreciative for all of the amazing people you have in your life, and bring that extra love into your relationship. This is an opportunity to get really creative in your relationship, and in the long run, it will make the moments you and your significant other get to spend together in person much more special. Your relationship will come out stronger on the other side of this.
