Her Campus American is so incredibly proud of our senior graduates for Spring 2020!
Today’s Senior highlight is Anastasia Maragos. Anastasia currently serves as one of our Social Media Editors. Anastasia is a truly wonderful person down to her core. She is always, naturally, so determined and passionate about her work and we are so grateful to have her as a member of our Executive Board. Anastasia is a sunshine person and a true light to everyone she meets. She continues to amaze us in her leadership role in HCAU and we are so excited to see all of the exceptional things she is going to accomplish! Congratulations Anastasia, you are wonderful!
Major/Minor: Public Relations/Marketing
Best memory at AU:
Honestly, there are too many to choose from. But I think my favorite memory was going to the Founder’s Day Ball my freshman year and dancing at the Newseum with my new friends. It was the moment where I felt that I truly had arrived and was a part of the AU community. The night was filled with many laughs and just memories of being completely happy.
Plans after Graduation: My plan is to live in Chicago (my hometown) and work for a public relations firm on consumer goods clients. Â
Favorite memory in HCAU?
My favorite memory to date was the print night this past December. I enjoyed getting dressed up and having a fun night with my amazing HCAU sisters and E-board squad. I felt so proud to be a member of this organization and was excited to share the work that our team as a whole has produced that semester.
How did HCAU change your college experience?
HCAU completely changed my college experience for the better. This amazing chapter helped me find my voice as a writer and as a young woman. HCAU gave me the opportunity to freely share my thoughts and opinions. In addition, I gained such amazing sisters. I’m an only child and I felt like I was able to become close to some of the most intelligent and motivated women I have ever met. The articles I wrote and the friends I have made will stay with me forever. I am so grateful HCAU was a part of my college experience.
Any advice for underclassmen?
Be fearless. I know this advice is extremely brief but what I have learned during college is that by tossing away fear and self-doubt you give yourself the freedom to grow and become who you were destined to be. Many people will try to bring you down, tell you that you aren’t good enough, and college in a way is the training ground for this harsh reality. By being fearless, you free yourself from all of this negativity and fear. Fearlessness is the action of recognizing your worth and realizing that you are enough!
The most important thing you learned during your undergrad career?
The most important thing that I learned is that I am enough. During college, I always felt extremely insecure about everything. Was I smart enough, did I wear the right clothes, did I do the right internships? After four years through lots of trial and error, I started to prove to myself that I could take on any challenge. Over the last four years, I have lost relatives, been rejected from internship opportunities, and encountered people that used me. I have learned now to feel that I am enough, and not worry about what others think of me or my goals. College was where I learned to love myself, imperfections in all. College pushed me to see that if I want to succeed in anything, I first have to believe and know that I am enough.
Here are a few kind words our Executive Board has to say about Anastasia:
“I love Anastasia’s energy. She’s always so positive and really makes everyone feel included.”
“Anastasia is the highlight of e-board. She always offers a hug or a smile.”
“Anastasia brings so much joy to everyone she meets and can light up any room.”
“Anastasia is someone that you just always want to give a bear hug to because there’s no other way to respond to her kindness and genuineness. She is truly beautiful inside and out and I am grateful to have gotten to know her through HCAU!”
Overall, Anastasia brings a niche joy and genuineness to literally everyone she interacts with. We all know Anastasia will be so successful in Chicago but we will, of course, miss her sunshine in DC! Congratulations Anastasia! We are so proud of the woman you have become and continue to be!
