Being isolated from the ones I love has really made me think about how I can still express that love when we cannot see one another. Even though you can’t be together, there are other ways to show how much you love them. During these times, everyone is feeling a little down being stuck at home. By surprising them with a note or delivering food to their house, it can brighten their day. Here are five ways to keep showing your loved ones that you care!
- Keep in Contact
-
The easiest way to remind any special person in your life that you love them is to keep in contact with them. Take the time to video chat to talk about anything and everything. Even though not much might be happening while you’re in self-isolation, there is still plenty the two of you can talk about. I am sure you are both stressing out about the same things, so talk about that. Even just ranting to your friend or loved one will show you care. It proves to them that you want their advice and can confide in them, even in the worst of times. If you’re in a group chat with your near and dear friends, consider sending a daily vibe check just to let them know you’re okay. This will show that you care and prevents the group from growing estranged during this time. By continuously talking, even if it’s a small text that takes two seconds of your day, it sends the message that you were thinking about them. Another way to do this is by sending memes to one another. If you come across an Instagram post you find funny, why not share the love? Everyone could use some laughter during these dark times.Â
- Deliver Something Special
-
I don’t know about you, but I have always loved receiving physical mail. Every time I would get anything in the mailbox, I would be overjoyed with excitement. No matter who it was from, it was always a great surprise. One way to spread love during quarantine is to send those you love a cute little note. It doesn’t have to be anything big or pricey, as long as what you write comes from your heart. I am positive that whoever you write to will appreciate the thought, no matter what is said inside. If you want to be generous, you might even consider sending a gift along with the letter. You could ship them something through Amazon, or even deliver flowers to their house. Another idea is to send your loved one “Open When Letters.” For those of you who are unsure of what those are, let me explain. You write a letter or send a gift and tell them exactly when to open each one. For example, you could say, “Open when you feel stressed,” or, “Open when we FaceTime.” It can be anything you want. It could be super basic or very specific. No matter what you send them, I am sure they will love it. Remember, it’s the thought that counts.
- Food Drop Off
-
For those loved ones who live close in distance to you, you could always drop off a cup of coffee at their house. If you are out and about and know your besties Starbucks order, why not pick it up and leave it on their doorstep with a cute note? Just make sure you don’t come into contact with them. As much as I am sure they would love to hug you, doing so would defeat the whole purpose of social distancing. Once you place the drink (or whatever you brought over) in front of their house, send them a text letting them know it’s there. If you can’t or don’t want to leave your house, another option is to use DoorDash or UberEats to deliver food to their house. Make sure to let them know it’s on the way so they can be prepared for it. For so many people, food is the key to their heart, so this might be your best option.
- Spend Time “Together”
-
Although we may be socially distancing and can’t spend any time together physically, there are still some activities you and your friends can do with one another online. If you want to have a movie night, try having a Netflix party. You can do this with one person or a group of friends. All you have to do is add the Netflix Party Google Chrome extension and binge away. If one of your favorite activities to do with your bestie is shopping, try FaceTiming them while simultaneously online shopping. I know it’s not the same, but it’s the best we have right now. If you’re a gamer, you could play some games together online, or even a simple iMessage game would do. By initiating any of these activities, you are showing this person that you miss them and want to spend time doing something together. For those in a relationship, try planning an online date for the two of you. Do something that you both will enjoy, making it easier to spend time apart from each other. No matter what you do with your loved one, it will be just as fun.
- Spread Some Cheer
-
Everyone is going through an extremely rough time right now. If you lend out your hand to show someone how much you love them, it would mean a lot. One way to do this is by running errands for them. Even though almost everything is closed, people still need to eat. If you’re running to the grocery store, send them a text asking if they need anything. This will save them the trip from going out of their house, but remember to leave the groceries on their front porch. Another way to remind someone you love them is by just helping them get through these times. You can do this by purchasing them a streaming service subscription. Being at home 24/7 without Netflix, Hulu, Spotify or any other service they might like, buying it for them will help get their mind off of what’s going on in the world. You can also start making plans for when all of this is over, such as going to the beach or a concert. It is always nice to have something to look forward to, especially during these tough times.
There are so many ways that you can express how much you care for your loved ones, so I hope I’ve provided you with some fun ideas. As long as you put your heart into it, they will see how much you truly love them.
