During times like these with a looming pandemic and anxiety about the future for many of us bouncing around through an online semester, it is important to keep our brains active. Online classes are not enough to keep us up with a daily routine that will keep us healthy and happy. Of course. Many have recommended keeping together a routine and schedule to make sure we are still getting dressed and out of bed every day.
There are those days where it seems too hard to even think about doing so; which is why it is so important to look into hobbies! Finding a passion for something new is an incredible motivator, it can just take a bit to find out what makes you tick!
Yoga and meditation is an amazing hobby to get into, but it can take time to get fully involved in. Meditation takes a lot of energy and focus to fall into, but donât worry! Some videos and podcasts are called âguided meditationâ that will help you to get your buzzing subconscious quiet. One person who does amazing guided meditations is Tara Brach on YouTube.
In terms of yoga, it is a bit more involved in the body, focusing on your movement and the stretch of your body as you work on your flexibility, strength and breathing. Body Positive Yoga is an amazing YouTube channel that helps to show that anybody no matter size or shape can enjoy yoga.
Another great hobby to pick up is painting! Allowing a creative expression to explode from you, especially with no one around to judge you. There doesnât have to be any background skill, and you donât even need a paintbrush if you donât want to spend the money. Finger painting, using kitchen utensils and many more possibilities come about when you start to think creatively.

Embroidery is a new trend right now, especially in the fashion community. You can learn how to make an old shirt into something new with a flair of creativity with small thread designs anywhere you please. Shirts, pants, socks, pillows, towels or anything you can put your mind to can get a new and upgraded look with a simple needle and thread. I had a lot of creative anxiety when I first got an embroidery kit, but with a little practice and some free time (which we all should have) embroidery becomes a fun and relaxing pastime.
And finally, journaling is an amazing habit and hobby for anyone to get into! Whether it be as simple as journaling out your plans for the day, bucket lists, art journals or creative writing it is important to get into a daily habit. Daily writing or drawing in a journal is an excellent tool for practicing and honing in your skills.
Of course, you can also keep to a normal journal/diary type of book that is just your daily thoughts, feelings and events happening to you. They will serve as amazing time capsules for you to look back on once everything blows over.
