What is your worst habit?
For me, that awful habit is picking my nails. Ever since I was a little kid, I can always remember picking my nails. Sometimes this was due to my own anxiousness, other times it was purely out of boredom, and often times I had grown so accustomed to it that I didn’t even recognize that I was picking them anymore. Over the years, this has not necessarily become more of a problem, but rather has become more of an insecurity of mine. No matter how hard I have wanted to quit, the cycle always stays the same. I will be doing well, my nails will finally be growing out, I’ll paint them whatever shade I feel like, and then one day the polish will start peeling and a day or two following my nails will be completely destroyed.
Through all of this, I’ll be the first to admit that I figured I would be the last person to be writing an article about nail art. But surprisingly enough, after many hours sucked into the vortex that is the Instagram explore page, I have found that apparently all it takes for me to find genuine solutions to a bad habit is for me to find a way to make my nails too pretty to pick at. Due to this new interest in using manicures as a means to help me curb my bad patterns, I have discovered some of the newest and coolest trends in nail art that are around today. Here are six of my top picks to watch out for this season:
- Geode
-
Recently, geodes have become particularly popular for home décor—especially with people of our generation. But even more recently, geode and other gem-looking designs have proven to be some of the trendiest and most intricate nail art designs. These can be done in a multitude of colors and variations, only making their popularity grow even more.
- Cow Print
-
Zebra print, snakeskin, and leopard print have all had their time in the spotlight, but it’s time to step aside for the newest animal print to take center stage: cow print. The simplistic colors of black and white and shapes involved make it an easy print to replicate on nails, while also allowing a ton of different variations in color to fit your unique style.
- Different Fingers, Different Colors
-
Most of us can remember back to a time when we pulled out every color of nail polish in the cabinet and used each finger to maximize the number of colors on our nails. Well, now it has become fashionable to do this again. Whether that means a simple ombré effect, a complex design, or whatever else your heart desires, the more colors the better.
- Collage
-
Thought collages were only meant for scrapbooks and arts and crafts? Think again. Collage nails are becoming one of the newest trends for nail art. The combination of colors and patterns gives each set of nails a unique feeling and lets individuals truly find nails that match their personality.
- Less is More
-
One of the biggest trends recently has been the idea of less is more. While there are still tons of beautiful, intricate designs, there has been a surge in the number of designs that focus on simple line drawings and few colors. A key component of this trend is the utilization of the actual color of your nail and black space rather than every part being painted.
- Angel Baby
-
Since the 2018 MET Gala whose Heavenly Bodies theme elicited plenty of religious imagery, angelic designs across all areas of fashion and beauty have surged in popularity. With the spring season approaching, these designs with their pastel colors and Catholic nodes prove to be both a trendy and fitting type of nail art for the Easter season. And if nothing else they look quite pretty.
Whatever reason you have for doing your nails, hopefully this article gives you some good ideas. Go out there, find something fun, and flaunt your new nail art!
