- “Shiki No Uta” by MINMI
- Flowers start to dance welcoming the spring time. The fields, endless, bringing on the sunshine.
- “Shiki no Uta” has long been my favorite springtime song, and now it’s finally in English! The Japanese version will always be my favorite though.
- “Headaches” by Raveena
- I wasn’t in the mood for love, but you can be quite funny.
- Raveena has been around for a minute, but what really caught me was her music video for “Headaches,” which stars herself and Hitomi Mochizuki as a couple that falls in love, plays around in pink sheets, and runs through the city. It starts with a smooth R&B sound and wraps up with jangly indie.
- “Better Way” by NEIL FRANCES
- No one is immune to a good indie jingle. NEIL FRANCES may still be pretty underground, but I love the sweet cascading fall of this chorus.
- “Nan-Nan” by Fujii Kaze
- I am thoughly convinced that newcomer Fujii Kaze’s blend of styles is going to take over the world this year. “Nan-nan” is full of funk and inspiration with sweet key changes and modulations that make it an earworm.Â
- “Kiss Me” by CAROLE & TUESDAY
- Nai Br.xx and Celeina Ann team up for this energetic pop about believing in the power of art and love for the theme song of Carole & Tuesday.
- “Generous” by Amber Mark
- Amber Mark’s first EP, 3:33AM, was full of rhythmic piano and jungle rain. Her new single, “Generous,” is slinky, lush, and ready to bite.
- “Tamale” by Daniela Andrade
- Woman, woman, woman, woman, hands so soft, yeah, leaves are blooming. Got my lazy pots all brewing cinnamon, horchata, cooling.
- Daniela Andrade is the kind of pop artist I always wanted as a latina growing up. “Tamale” finds her mixing food and love.
