About four months ago, I made an extreme decision to cut my hair from my lower back to a long bob just above my shoulders. It wasn’t my first time making a dramatic change to my hair and it definitely won’t be the last, but this time reminded me of the refreshing feeling of cutting off my damaged ends and starting something new.
Here are a few reasons why I recommend chopping your hair for anyone looking to switch up their style:
- Less Maintenance
-
As someone with really long and straight hair, I would be stuck giving myself an arm workout by brushing out the knots in my hair several times a day. My hair was like a pair of headphones because even after doing nothing, I would have to spend so much time unraveling the knots in my hair. Now, I rarely need to use a hair brush and most of the time put little to no effort into my hair in the morning, which saves me a lot of time, and gives me more time to sleep!
- Less Shampoo and Conditioner
-
With really long hair, I found myself using so much product while I was showering. It wasn’t too much, my hair definitely needed it, but it felt so wasteful and I was going through bottles of shampoo and conditioner and spending so much money so quickly. Now, I rarely even use conditioner, and as for shampoo, I am using a third of what I was using before, which is making my products last longer and prevents me from spending so much money.
- Looks More Mature
-
As I am leaving my teenage years behind in a few months, I think that it is also time for me to leave the long straggly look behind as well. I mean if you can take care of your hair, and get it cut regularly so it looks clean and fresh…more power to you, however, I am very lazy and would never do more to my hair than run a brush through it. I think that the shorter look is very chic and makes women look thinner and more mature. Now if you are too afraid to take the leap, then try a few inches and see how you like it!
- Half-Up, Half-Down Bun
-
When I originally cut my hair, it wasn’t even long enough to put in a ponytail without the back of it falling out, so I relied heavily on the half-up, half-down look, which I grew to love especially with shorter hair. Additionally, when I would workout, or do more strenuous activities, it kept the hair out of my face and was a lot lighter than lugging around a long swinging ponytail or floppy bun.
- Less Hair…Everywhere!
-
Now I don’t know about you, but when my hair was longer, I found that everything I touched would be covered in hair. Somehow, things I didn’t even use would have my own hair clung to it. Not only is it gross, but it is just annoying and frustrating to find your floor, your clothes, your bags covered in your own hair and not having enough time in the day to clean it up (I’m being a bit dramatic, but still). Now, I barely use my brush, and don’t find nearly as much hair as I did before.
