Halloween decorations are being replaced by Christmas ones and even the air feels different…literally, because it’s colder, but also the adrenaline and thrill of spook is dying out for a warmer, fuzzier feeling in the air. A time for goodwill and cheer is certainly approaching. Along with these fuzzy feelings of love for others I’m sure we’re all feeling extra fuzzy about our S.O.. Maybe this is your first holiday together or maybe you’ve been together for a while, but the love in the air around Christmastime and the sight of family around a Thanksgiving table makes me feel so overwhelmed with joy and love for the person I’ve been blessed enough to call mine. When I feel extra fuzzy, I like to ask Brandon to dance with me. I’ve made a great love song playlist that we’ve created many tender memories and hopefully you will as well! Without further ado, I present my love song playlist. (WARNING: Playlist includes many Ed Sheeran and may cause couples to tear up!)

Wherever This Goes – The Fray

The Fray have a bunch of other great ones, but I like this one because it’s more of an undiscovered gem. This is just about sticking with your lover through wherever life takes you. “Wherever this goes, no matter how far, baby you are the song that’s written on my heart. Wherever we stand, wherever we fall, it don’t matter at all ‘cause I will be forever yours. From this moment ‘til the days the curtains close…”

Tenerife Sea – Ed Sheeran

This song is so simple, but the beautiful melody makes it so easy to fall in love with. It’s essentially just admiration of his lover and Ed saying how in love he is, but it’s a great one to gaze at your lover and think about how lucky you are.

You Are the Reason – Calum Scott

This song is beautiful, but lyrics help remind us the lengths we should be willing to go for our beloved. “I’d climb every mountain, and swim every ocean, just to be with you, and fix what I’ve broken, cause I need you to see, that you are the reason.” I know the song explicity says, “and fix what I’ve broken,” but your lover isn’t perfect, you’re not perfect, there are going to be times when you mess up. That is fine so long as you fix it. I think Calum Scott is trying to say I may not be perfect, but I will go to any length to make it right for you, something we all need.

Die A Happy Man – Thomas Rhett

I’m going to be honest, I am not a country music fan. When Brandon was at basic training in Georgia, he actually got the chance to call me one night and he told me a song came on the radio on the bus that made him miss me a lot, and he made sure to give me the disclaimer it was a country song, but that I should look it up. I was in tears when I listened to it. This song talks about how Thomas may want to buy expensive things and go on wild adventures, but even if he doesn’t get the chance to, “if all I got is your hand in my hand, baby I could die a happy man.” True love fills you up with true happiness so much more than any physical thing does.

Love Someone – Lukas Graham

Okay, I need to grab my tissues before I write this. No offense to the others, but I honestly think Love Someone is the best love song of this decade, if not ever. I literally cannot listen to it without ugly crying. Love Someone is the only song I can think of that of course discusses how blessed Lukas Graham is to have his lover, but also taps into the very real fear that I think everyone has about something happening to their loved ones. If you’re in a position right now where it’s acceptable to cry, watch the music video. It’s beautiful because it taps into all types of love: of course lovers, but also parent and child, loved ones who have passed on, families, etc. I also love the video because it is very inclusive of LGBTQ+, multi-racial couples, etc. Seriously, this song is good

Say You Won’t Let Go – James Arthur

I love this one again because it talks about growing older with your lover, it starts with the couple meeting and shows James Arthur still doing the things he did for his lover when they first met years later. He tells his lover how much he needs her and hopes that she needs him just as much.

Never Stop (Wedding Version) – SafetySuit

A great song in any version, but the wedding version is slower and even more romantic. This is one Brandon liked and actually asked me to add. “I will never stop trying…I will never stop choosing you babe, I will never get used to you.” I love this one because it says how much love is a choice, I think too often love is only portrayed as warm fuzzy feelings and or course that’s part of it, but when you really love someone you make an active choice to be with them and love them no matter what. I like how this song taps into that.

Perfect – Ed Sheeran

I tried to put less Ed in here, but come on, Perfect? The love song of the century? Of course that’s listed. I really love how the verses convey Ed and his lover growing up together. “We were just kids when we fell in love, not knowing what it was…” in verse one and verse two saying, “we are still kids but we’re so in love, fighting against all odds, I know we’ll be alright this time.” Personally, this one resonates with me because Brandon and I fell in love so young, but I love the idea that even when you’re old, you can be young and in love.

A Thousand Years – Christina Perri

As we all remember from Twilight, this song (though originally used to sing about vampires) sings about how true love is timeless. Not to mention it’s just beautful. One of my friends actually walked down the aisle to the instrumental, it was beautiful!

Young and Beautiful – Lana Del Rey

Still on our ‘love is timeless and movie soundtrack’ theme, in Young And Beautiful Lana asks her lover if he will still love her when she is no longer young and beautiful, she answers her own question by saying “I know you will,” not as romantic lyrically, but if you’ve heard Lana’s enchanting voice and vibe you know why it had to be included.

These are my favorites, but others on my playlist are:

  • Earth Angel – The Penguins
  • Never Enough – Loren Allred
  • Marry Me – Train
  • Photograph – Ed Sheeran
  • Drops of Jupiter – Train
  • Never Say Never – The Fray
  • Give me Love – Ed Sheeran
  • Wonderful Tonight – Eric Clapton
  • Love Her – Jonas Brothers
  • Thinking Out Loud – Ed Sheeran

Grab your partner and your speakers, and have a romantic evening!

Lyss
