Growing up, I was always a big fan of watching movies, especially romantic comedies, simply because of how corny and cheesy they are. Throughout the years, I’ve watched more romantic comedies than I can count off the top of my head so I have decided to share a list of my all-time favorites! So, without further ado, here are my top 10 favorite romantic comedies that I truly recommend you all watch when you get the chance.
10 Things I Hate About You
Not only was it so heartbreaking watching Kat cry while she read her poem to the class, which is probably the most iconic scene in the movie but the fact that Patrick surprised her with a guitar at the end! If you like watching an angry teenage girl fall head over heels (thanks to her overly-popular sister Bianca), for a cute Australian guy (who is bribed), then this film is for you.
50 First Dates
Honestly, Drew Barrymore proves the point that if someone really wants to be with you, they will do anything to make it happen (per her short-term memory loss). Adam Sandler plays the iconic playboy living the life in Hawaii, until one day he meets this cute blonde (played by Barrymore) and his life changes forever. BTW, I’m obsessed with building waffle houses (literally what it sounds like), thanks to this movie.Â
Clueless
Alright, alright so this movie isn’t exactly a romance film, but Cher does end up falling in love with her stepbrother (once removed?) after going through the ups and downs of being a popular blonde in Beverly Hills. Besides there being such iconic dress wear throughout the film, the soundtrack is pretty good. There’s nothing like watching a clueless, beautiful blonde manage high school as if it were her world. Also, thanks to Cher we all now know plaid skirts are a go-to look.Â
She’s All ThatÂ
In what starts as a challenge for Zach after his hot cheerleader girlfriend dumps him, he now has to make Laney Boggs (a nerd turned hot girl) the prom queen. If I’m being honest, the prom scene when everyone does a coordinated choreographed dance was probably what we all thought prom was like at some point.Â
Princess Diaries
Ahh yes, one of my favorites. I just like how I can easily relate to Mia in the sense that we both have super curly hair and glasses but then after a makeover, we get the guy who deserves us. Other than that, she’s a pretty bada*s female for doing right by her and staying true to herself. Kudos to Mia Thermopolis, Princess of Genovia. Also, I heard there could be a third installment of the movie coming out?Â
500 Days of Summer
So, this isn’t exactly a comedy but there are funny moments, like the unexpected dance scene! This movie probably has one of the most heartbreaking endings (@Summer I’m still mad at you!) but in the end, Tom moves on and finds happiness.
13 Going on 30
I don’ think I have ever met a 13-year-old who wanted to be thirty years old so badly until I watched this movie. The main character Jenna thinks that once you turn thirty years old, life gets better. But boy is she wrong! Played by Jennifer Garner, Jenna perfectly depicts the life of a young teenage girl who wishes to live in the city, although she discovers adulthood isn’t all fun and games.Â
A Cinderella StoryÂ
Nothing gives us more 2000s vibes than watching a teenage girl IM her crush through her flip-phone. Hilary Duff plays Sam who is not only a hardworking straight-A student who is graduating early but she also works at her stepmother’s diner, all while having Prince Charming begging on his knees for her. Sam was the epitome of a hardworking girl getting the job done and going to Princeton with her S.O.
Crazy, Stupid, Love
Alright, there are a couple of plot lines throughout the movie but all you need to know is that Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling’s characters make the cutest couple and Cal, played by Steve Carell, deserves more than his cheating wife. Also, Cal turns into a playboy thanks to Gosling. Also, before I forget, Ryan Gosling looks stupid hot shirtless, like he looks delicious!
27 DressesÂ
This movie was one of my favorites growing up, simply because Jane, played by Katherine Heigl, is such a sweet soul with an enormous collection of bridesmaids dresses (even a Southern Belle one, my personal favorite) but she totally stole the show at her sisters’ rehearsal dinner with the video she made (lookup: exposing her sister). In the end, she gets the fairytale ending she always dreamed of having, thanks to her beau Kevin, played by James Marsden. The best scene, in my opinion, was when Jane and Kevin get drunk at a bar and sing their hearts out to “Bennie and the Jets.” Iconic.
