I know almost everyone can relate to this week’s article. Maybe you clicked on it because you’re planning on breaking up with someone. Maybe you are currently trying to get over a breakup. Maybe break up music is just your favorite style. Whatever your reason is, I know you are strong and I know you can get through this.
What has always been a big passion of mine, and something I have always used as a way of coping, is music. After every break up, I have listened to very similar songs and styles, and I personally think it has helped. For those of you in a situation such as this, here are some of my favorite songs that have helped me push through the hardships in my life.
1. “A Little Bit Stronger” by Sara Evans
There are so many reasons that this song is my favorite breakup piece. The first reason is the lyrics. They are so powerful, and they speak to me on so many levels. The hardest part of a breakup is being strong. This song touches upon every little thing that could happen, that makes you think of your S.O., and it explains how even when you’re sad, you’re still getting stronger.
2. “Mama’s Broken Heart” by Miranda Lambert
This song is interesting because at first she’s singing about how hurt she is and what she has been doing to try to “cope” with the breakup. But the song quickly changes to a reverse pep talk. “Go and fix your makeup girl it’s / just a breakup.” These lines are powerful. At first you’re annoyed—they are almost negating your feelings. But she’s right. You don’t need to mope, don’t need to be miserable. You can move on. It’s okay.
3. “Easier to Lie” by Cassadee Pope
I’ll be totally honest: this song can be rough. If you’ve been cheated on, or if you have cheated, this song is painful. When I need to have a hard cry, this is the song I use. I personally feel like this song helps to understand the motives behind the action. Whether or not you agree is a different question, but I felt better after I began to understand their thoughts.
4. “Good Girl” by Carrie Underwood
Sometimes, I get very upset with myself. For falling for the same type of guys, for not noticing the little signs, for letting myself be blinded by what I want to see. When I sing this song, it feels like I’m talking to myself, addressing everything that I need to hear but don’t want to hear.
5. “Picture to Burn” by Taylor Swift
This is a very good angry song. If you are angry, pissed off or just need a reason to sing powerfully, this is a good song for you. Be angry. Yell. Shout. “So watch me strike a match / On all my wasted time / As far as I’m concerned you’re / Just another picture to burn.” Damn right.Â
These are just a few of the songs that help me cope, though there are loads of other styles, songs, and artists that can do the same. Just remember, whatever happens, you are beautiful. You deserve to be happy and loved. No matter how hard something is right now, it doesn’t last forever. I promise, you will make it through today’s troubles. And you will be a better you because of it.
