What are you studying? I’m double majoring in Biomedical sciences and Spanish with a Deaf Studies minor
What clubs/jobs/ activities are you involved in? I am a peer mentor for GOA, a peer success coach, a tutor, a recruiter for Exceptional Student Assembly, and I’m in Pre-Med Student Association.
Can you tell me about your study abroad experience? This summer I went to Peru as a part of the Cura Personalis Immersion-based study abroad program. While in Peru, I was taking a healthcare Spanish class and a community engagement Spanish class through in-class assignments and experiential learning. I stayed with a host family for one week in Lima and stayed in a Jesuit retreat house in Andayuilas, a small village in the Andes Mountains. During my time in Peru, I became close with students at the Jesuit University there, worked with children at various after school programs, visited hospitals and clinics to see the differences in healthcare, improved my Spanish, and learned so much about the culture and about solidarity.
What are your plans after Xavier? After Xavier, I hope to go to medical school and get my translator certification for Spanish. After medical school, I hope to be a pediatric psychiatrist or pediatric geneticist in a high Spanish speaking population.
What is your favorite thing about Xavier? My favorite thing about Xavier is how much the faculty and staff care about me as an individual and not just as a number. I have had many professors that have been integral in helping me succeed in college as a student and as a person.
