I recently decided it was time to switch it up and go blonde again after seeing so many others do it. I’ve highlighted my hair at home many times throughout middle school (yes, mistakes were made), but this time I decided it’s time to go to a professional. I totally recommend going with a friend because the whole process took about 3 hours, between highlighting with foils, letting the bleach develop, washing it out, toning, a conditioning treatment, and then styling. In the end, it was definitely worth the long wait.
As you may or may not know, whether you’re dying or bleaching your hair, it is very harmful. My hair is naturally curly, so I was heckin’ nervous about how damaging it would be. There are a few easy things you can do to keep your hair healthy. One is to avoid using heat, but that isn’t always possible. When you can’t avoid it, always use a heat protectant. Always. Another thing is to do hair masks about once a week. I love making homemade masks because they are cheaper and so much better than store-bought ones. So many masks recipes call for ingredients you probably have in your fridge or pantry, and they are so nutritious for your hair. Plus this can be a great self-care time or invite some freinds over for a fun spa night.
You’ve probably seen the craze of platinum hair and purple shampoo recently on social media because it is what enticed me to bleach my hair. Purple shampoo is KEY to keeping up with that bright blonde everyone loves. This is especially important for those living on campus because UW-La Crosse doesn’t use water softener. Now you may be asking, “why do I care about that?” Well, since there isn’t softener in the water, this means it can easily turn your bright, platinum blonde to a brassy yellow or orange color from the iron and other minerals. You can easily use a purple shampoo to counteract the color (since yellow is the opposite of purple on the color wheel). Below shows a photo of one wash with purple shampoo and how much it can really improve your hair color.
If you’ve been contemplating about going blonde, I totally think you should do it! Getting a new look is the perfect thing to boost your confidence and happiness.
