As I write this article, I can hear the rain splattering outside my window. The sound automatically makes me feel calm and focused. I’ve never quite understood the “rain rain go away” song because, if you couldn’t tell, I really like the rain. Don’t get me wrong, nothing beats a 72 degree sunny day, but there are some serious perks to a day-long rainshower. Rather than letting the rain get you down, here are some ideas to stay productive and upbeat when you’re stuck indoors.
- Take a Nap

To me, the most ideal sleeping condition is in bed with the window open during a rainstorm. The sound of rain is rhythmic, calming, and peaceful, and makes for the perfect natural lullaby. Assuming you’re not swamped with homework, there is no better time to catch up on some sleep than on a rainy day.
- Bake

Rain instantly makes me crave comfort food, and what satisfies this better than a warm, gooey chocolate chip cookie? Nothing. So, rather than sit around and wish we had an Insomnia Cookies here in Waterville, make your own and share with friends.
- Netflix

Another ideal rainy day past-time is catching up on your favorite TV show. In a perfect world, I would be in my bed watching Love Island (the British version of course). I often feel guilty when I sit inside and watch TV on a sunny day, so when it’s rainy take advantage of being forced inside and relax on the couch.
- Spa Day

Paint your nails, do a face mask, put coconut oil in your hair, exfoliate, and sit back. This way, when the sun returns and you see everyone as you walk around on campus, you’ll be glowing.
- Homework

I know, this one isn’t super fun. However, I find it very difficult to focus for a long time when it’s a beautiful day, so use the rain as a mechanism for productivity. Tomorrow when the sun is out, you’ll be happy you did.
Enjoy your rainy day, I know I will!
