Ah, the love we have for Trader Joe’s. It’s the apple of our eyes. It is our one true love—sorry, Whole Foods, you’re just too expensive. For those of us who live in East Campus, the Back Bay Trader Joe’s is only a short walk up Newbury to the Prudential. But in the cramped and self-acclaimed “smallest trader Joe’s known to the universe,” it can be a little hectic to figure out what snacks to get for the week. So, here are my five favorite snacks to purchase at Trader Joe’s.
- Peanut Butter Filled Pretzels
-
I promise these will soon be flooding your kitchen cabinets. These salty snacks will get you through the rough times of midterms, finals, and post-midnight munchies. It adds a new dimension to the regular pretzel without making you carry around a jar of peanut butter with your bag of unsalted pretzels. Just trust me on this one, the Peanut Butter Filled Pretzels are the way to go.
- Yogurt and Fruit
-
Like most grocery stores, Trader Joe’s has a wide selection of its own signature yogurts. One of my personal favorites is the six-pack of peach and mango cream yogurts. However, they have other simpler or not-as sweet flavors for you to check out.
If you want to limit your plastic use, I also recommend purchasing their yogurt tub of their Greek Yogurt with Honey. Chop up some strawberries, peaches, or blueberries to put into your yogurt.
- Cheese!
-
Who doesn’t love eating fine cheese while having a Leo DiCaprio movie marathon or finishing that 2,000-word creative writing assignment? Trader Joe’s has a wide cheese selection from brie to gouda to mozzarella.
A quick tip for an easy and inexpensive cheese plate: cheese (my faves are brie and Toscano), the mini brioche toasts, sliced prosciutto and a drizzle of olive oil on top!
- Dried Mango Slices
-
Another classic Trader Joe’s snack is their dried mango selection. They have organic dried mango, but they also have softer and sweeter ones depending on your taste buds. These are great to keep in your bag so you can munch on your way to your next class, while in a meeting, or when the hummus and chips from the GSU are out of your tax bracket.
- Chicken/Pork Potstickers
-
Who doesn’t love potstickers on a Monday night when the dining hall is closed or Stacey told you that they are serving that questionable sausage and uncooked broccoli? These potstickers come in small bags that have 2-3 servings and all you have to do is throw them in the microwave for a few minutes—voilà!
While all the food that Trader Joe’s has to offer is absolutely delicious and I would love to spend hours upon hours looking at all the food, this compiled list will help you get in and out quicker, especially considering how packed it can get in the lines in Boston’s underground Trader Joe’s.
