The Nike Joyride Makes Running Easier & More Enjoyable

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

On July 24th, Nike hosted the Joyride Class Experience to kick off their newest running sensation, Nike Joyride. Designed to make running easier, the Nike Joyride is a Nike-only, proprietary cushioning system made of thousands of TPE beads. The system creates a dynamic footbed that forms to your foot and feels personalized to the runner specifically. I had the absolute pleasure of being among the first to experience the new shoes!

Guests were gifted Nike Joyride shoes and clothes for the workout included in the session. Rachel Bull, Nike Spokesperson and Senior Director of Running, explained the inspiration and technology behind the Nike Joyride shoes. She shared, “We recognize that running can be hard for anyone. It can be painful, intimidating and even boring. Here at Nike, we are passionate about getting people to run. We love the idea of breaking down these barriers to make running easier on the body and more accessible, which is why we set out to create Nike Joyride.”

Upon wearing the shoes, the first thing I noticed was how comfortable the shoes were. Bull explained that the cushioning system is meant to reduce impact absorption, and I was able to feel this as the shoes seemed to adjust around my feet, enveloping my feet rather than sealing them in. During the session, guests were able to actually test the shoes through an interactive treadmill workout with trending music playing in the background. The running experience really was like no other. With the Nike Joyride shoes, running seemed to require less strain from my body, as the sensation felt similar to running on bubbles and soft grass.

As a college student, I find myself to be constantly on my feet, whether I am rushing to all my classes around campus or navigating around Los Angeles. The Nike Joyride shoes are extremely comfortable, which makes running or even walking, not only bearable but actually enjoyable. I love how cozy my feet feel while wearing the shoes, and the comfort motivates me to go running more often.

An important thing to note is that Nike encourages runners to be proactive about protecting the environment. Nike offers the Reuse-A-Shoe program to remind runners to recycle their shoes once no longer usable. The company released the statement, “Nike is committed to creating a more sustainable future and protecting the future of sport. Like all athletic footwear, Joyride can be recycled through Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe program and transformed into new products. We have also been actively exploring the source of microfibers and working with the sporting goods industry and other industries to understand the issue and identify long-term scalable solutions.”

In addition to the Joyride Class Experience, Nike also hosted the Nike Joyride Beach Run on July 26th at Santa Monica, to offer guests more opportunities to try out the new Joyride technology. Check out Nike Joyride’s website for more information on their newly released shoes. The Nike Joyride Run Flyknit is now available to Nike members; the sneakers will be available on August 15 for $180!
