The Morning Routines Of A Bunch Of Editors, Because We Love A Good GRWM

The Her Campus National Editors write about products we love and think you’ll love too. Her Campus has affiliate partnerships, so we get a share of the revenue from your purchase. All products are in stock and all prices are accurate as of publication.

Everyone’s morning routine looks different. For some of us, it’s hitting snooze and then getting ready in a frantic five minutes to rush out the door. For others, it’s hopping out of bed and siezing the day with a fresh latte and 12-step skincare routine. Or maybe it’s a combo of both, depending on what you have planned!

Because I’m always curious about how to have the most productive morning, and also always looking for product inspo, I asked Her Campus editors what their get-ready routines look like from start to finish. So if you’re looking for some Her Conference beauty ideas, or just want some new product recommendations, it’s time to take notes.

Gina Escandon, Beauty Editor

“On big event days, my main goal is to glow, glow, glow. I love luminous skin and dewy makeup, so in the morning I spend a lot of time playing with products that make me look as fresh and soft as possible. I mask most days of the week, and I love using a vitamin mask geared towards vibrancy because it’s one of the few products where I actually see results in a matter of minutes. Then I’ll follow up with a ginger-infused serum to get rid of any remaining dullness, followed by gobs of moisturizer to plump up my skin.

For my makeup routine: it’s pretty minimal and straightforward in terms of foundation, mascara, etc. But I do make sure to use a brightening primer and a gloss to make my face have this pearl effect. When I know my skin is glowing, that’s when I’m most confident and ready to take on big events.”

“When I know I’m going to be at an all-day event, I want my makeup to last the whole time, especially when I don’t know when the next photo op will be. If you know me, my glow is my go-to, but for the glow to last all day, some ~work~ has to be done.

After I’m done cleansing my face in the morning (face mask, wash, etc.) I prep my cleansed skin with primer, which I truly believe makes your foundation last longer. No foundation has me feelin’ myself more than RiRi’s Fenty foundation. As a long-wear matte, it really lasts through a day of running around and sweating. To achieve the more glowy look with the foundation, I mix a liquid highlighter into the foundation before applying. This transforms the matte foundation, giving it super soft, real-looking skin vibes. After I put the rest of my face on, I finish with my signature can’t-live-without lipgloss. I used to be a matte only lippie girl, but recently I have re-discovered my love for the glossy look. Now I never go anywhere unless my lipgloss is poppin’.”

“When I’m getting ready for a long #HerConference day, I’m only using my very top products that I know will have my back. I moisturize my face first (duh), then move to my trusty foundation. I love something that’s super lightweight and gives just the right amount of coverage, all while avoiding that cakey, flakey residue I sometimes get with foundations when I have them on for too long. Next up, my brows, AKA my brand. My brows have to be ON POINT all day, and must stay secured. A gel formula really makes sure my brows stay intact from dawn to dusk.

To bring some life back into my complexion, I add a little bit of blush with flecks of rose gold and gold tones, which looks literally so beautiful for any occasion. Lastly, I add a true red lip because I feel my most badass when I’m wearing a red lip.”

“My goal for events is to look like myself, but a little bit more together. I start with a super fresh, glowy base by truly going hard with the face oils. I do a layer of face oil, then a layer of moisturizer, then a layer of cicacream to get rid of any redness. I cover any zits and dark spots (though I leave my under eye circles, because they’re kind of a mood) and then I do a really light layer of foundation (though, TBH, Glossier’s Perfecting Skin Tint really is more of a tint than a full foundation). What I truly focus on are brows, and lipstick. I’m never not wearing a combo of Milk Makeup’s Kush Brow and Glossier’s Boy Brow. The final step? Tarte’s lip paint in Extra.”

“After cleansing, letting my skin drink up a Vitamin C serum, and moisturizing right when I wake up, I’ll be hunkering down at my makeshift vanity to create my Her Conference beauty look. I don’t like to wear foundation during the summer, and I’ve literally gotten a sunburn from sitting too close to a window before, so my first and most important step is to mix Drunk Elephant’s Umbra Tinte SPF with Drunk Elephant’s B-Hydra serum. This creates a DIY foundation that gives my transluscent skin some color without covering up my freckles and other beloved imperfections.

Next up, I tap (with my ring finger) one of Supergoop’s Shimmershade eyeshadows with SPF 30 onto my lids. It’s the perfect amount of sheer color while providing added sun protection to my delicate eyelids. You’re going to think I’m crazy, but I skip eyebrows. I dye my hair blonde, so my eyebrows are already way darker than my hair and super full (full as in I would have a unibrow if I didn’t wax once a month). Concealing my dark circles is my next step for feeling as confident as possible, and my go-to, holy grail, can’t-live-without-it concealer is Tarte’s Shape Tape concealer. Plain and simple, it conceals without creasing. I’ll set that *lightly* with Huda Beauty’s Easy Bake setting powder, and I dust that on my forehead as well to soak up shine from my DIY Drunk Elephant foundation.

Once I’m concealed, I brush Too Faced’s Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer in the hollows of my cheeks, the tip of my chin, and across my forehead (this is potent, so you don’t need a lot!). Then I go absolutely ham with highlighter. I use Hourglass’s Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder in shade Iridescent, and I work that into my cheek bones, down the center of my nose, into my cupid’s bow, the corner of my eyes, and right under the arch of both of my brows. The cherry on top is a million layers of Too Faced’s Better Than Sex mascara (it’s simply the best) and It Cosmetics’s Je Ne Sais Quoi Hydrating Color Awakening Lip Treatment (looks like lipstick, feels like chapstick). Then my face is ready to go!

For hair, I usually just shower and throw in some of Ouai’s Mousse and Wave Spray to amp up my natural waves, but for Her Conference Day I’ll be creating loose, voluminous curls with my Beachwaver (a self-rotating curling iron that will change your life).”

Since I know it’s going to be a long day, first and foremost, I’ll be using my IT Cosemtics Bye Bye Pores primer. It makes my skin look ridiculously smooth and helps my makeup stay in place all day long. And, since I plan on taking all of the photos at Her Conference, I want to have a ~glow~. That’s where my Hourglass Bronzer comes in. The stuff is pure magic! And since I want the right kind of glow (not an oily, sweaty kind) I’ll set everything with Fenty Instant Retouch Setting Powder (I’ll also carry it around with me all day for any quick touch-ups). I don’t like to think about who I was before this product came into my life.
