On April 26th, Taylor Swift dropped her new single “ME!”, featuring Brendon Urie from Panic! at the Disco. Unlike past eras, Taylor did not release the album name and release date along with the lead single, leading many fans to theorize the possible album title and release date. Seeing that many fans were disappointed that she did not release the album title, Taylor gave fans a little hint by tweeting “So… the new album title is actually revealed somewhere in the video AND so is the title of the second single, but I haven’t seen people finding them yet…” This led fans into a frenzy to try to guess the new album title.
As of right now, the leading fan theory is that the album is called Kaleidoscope. Many fans believe this could be the possible album title because of the kaleidoscope in the ME! music video where Taylor and Brendon are dancing in 70s themed wardrobe.
Taylor has also made a point to emphasize the fact that there is a kaleidoscope in the video by reblogging a fan’s comment on how it’s a “kaleidoscope of loud heartbeats under clothes”, which is a lyric from one of Taylor’s past songs. Many of her latest Instagram stories also feature a small clip of a kaleidoscope with the link to stream ME!. Throughout the new era, Taylor has worn and posted pictures of butterflies. Coincidentally, a group of butterflies just so happens to be called a kaleidoscope.
Other prominent theories include Home and Lovers. Many believe the new album could possibly be named Home because the ME! music video has a Christmas tree in the background of the first scene. This is significant because Taylor grew up on a Christmas tree farm. She also posted a picture of herself at her childhood home last summer with the caption “Take me Home”.
Another prominent theory is Lovers. This theory has died down in the past few days and fans now believe it is most likely the title of the second single and not the album. Either way, the theory developed when fans spotted the word “Lover” in the background of the ME! video.
Taylor also posted a photo on Instagram of her wearing a t-shirt with the word “lovers” written on it last year.
Of course, we have no real reason to believe that any of these theories are true. However, Taylor did recently say on the Zach Sang show that some fans have correctly guessed the name of the album, meaning that one of these theories is probably correct.
As for the release date, most fans believe that the album will come out on either July 13th, July 26th, or August 30th. July 13th has been the speculated release date for months because there is a sticker on that date in her calendar. It is also the 7th month of the year (it will be her 7th album) and the 13th date( She’s had a career for 13 years and 13 is her lucky number). Taylor also made a point of telling fans to count the number of briefcases and clouds in the ME! music video (There are 7 briefcases and 13 clouds). Others speculate that it could be released on July 26th because that is 13 weeks after the release of ME!, and 13 days after the July 13th sticker. (Me! was released 13 days after the April 13th sticker). The last release date theory is August 30th because the clock in the music video is pointed to 8:30.
The majority of fans believe that the album will be released on July 13th. However, it is important to remember that the date falls on a Saturday, and new music is typically released on Fridays. Both July 26th and August 30th are on Fridays though. Whether or not the album is called Kaleidoscope or Home, released in July or August, I know it will be amazing and I can’t wait to hear what Taylor Swift has in store for us!
