If you haven’t been living under a rock, you probably have heard all of the talk about season 8 of Game of Thrones. This highly anticipated season began on April 14th, and as a GoT fanatic, I was counting down the days. Something that made this countdown even more exciting was that Urban Decay, a cosmetics company, announced that they would be releasing a limited-edition line of products solely dedicated to Game of Thrones on the same day. The line includes an eyeshadow palette, highlight palette, lip & cheek stain, pencil eyeliners, lipsticks, and even two makeup brushes themed to fit Arya Stark and Jon Snow’s swords. Above all, there is also a vault that has everything in the line within it.
Being a college student on a budget, I saved up to buy one lipstick and the eyeshadow palette. I was ready to buy it the moment that it came out with my debit card ready for purchases. In a blink of an eye, the entire product line was sold out and I was heartbroken over not being able to get my hands on them, after all, I had stayed up late so I would be able to get it the moment it was released. Sad and makeup-less, I went to bed.
The next morning, I woke up and figured I would check online again to see if anything had been restocked yet, and I must have hit it at a good time because the eyeshadow palette was back in stock! I immediately put it in my cart and anxiously awaited the arrival of my newfound love.
Flash forward to about a week later when I received a notification saying my package had arrived. I rushed to the mailroom right away with a longing in my heart for this palette. I picked it up and ripped open the package to find this beautifully designed packaging of the product. I’m a stickler for the appearance of a product as a business major, because it is something that the buyer is first drawn to and can make or break the product.
The outsider of the palette had the pattern of the Iron Throne, while the inside featured a map of the Seven Kingdoms. At first opening, I found a decent-sized mirror, as well as a stunning pop-up of the Iron Throne and quotes from characters like Daenerys Targaryen and Tyrion Lannister. I was amazed at the attention to detail within the product. Below the pop-up of the Iron Throne is a drawer-like casing for the eyeshadow.
With 20 total shadows in the palette, each eyeshadow is named and categorized in accordance to the three houses; Stark, Lannister, and Targaryen, as well as a group for the Night King and army of the dead. I was thrilled when I noticed that each shadow’s name had a meaning or purpose that related back to the series. Aside from the details of the product itself, the eyeshadows are a magnificent range of shades. From bright colors to glitters to soft neutrals, this palette has everything I could ever want in eyeshadow. In the few weeks I have owned the palette, I have found myself repeatedly using colors like “Red Keep”, “Lannister Red”, and “Winterfell”. I love neutrals, which is why I have become so drawn to these colors. Each is a mixture of the different types of shadows in the palette. “Red Keep” is a copper color with a slight sheen to it, “Lannister Red” is a beautiful matte burgundy, and “Winterfell” is a dark gold glitter shade which, for a glitter, goes on incredibly smooth. I’ve been waiting for the perfect moment to break out the brighter color shades that I have tried from the palette, but for now the neutrals are working wonderfully.
Looking for the perfect color combination for your eyes from this palette? Take a look at some of the combinations I have listed below:
- “Red Keep”, “Lannister Red”, “Kings Landing”, & “Nymeria”
- “White Walker”, “Bend the Knee”, & “Stormborn”
- “House Lannister”, “Bay of Dragons”, & “Weirwood Leaves”
- “Nymeria”, “The Sight”, & “Winterfell”
- “Nymeria”, “Winterfell”, & “Lannister Red”
As for the lipstick I also desperately wanted, but struggled to get my hands on, I was able to order it when it went on sale through Ulta Beauty on April 29th. I ordered the shade of the Vice lipstick in “White Walker”, a deep matte berry color. While I have yet to receive the product, I have no doubt in my mind that it will be worth the wait.
