I wouldn’t say I’m great at keeping up with the latest music. I’m usually at least a few hours, and in some cases, a couple days, behind other people when knowing who dropped what new single or album. Instead, you’ll find me listening to some oldies but goodies or something that’s a little more off of people’s radars. I have compiled a list of some of my favorites here, but be sure to check out our New Music Monday Spotify playlist below.

Sick Feeling by Boy Pablo

Alright, I have been following Boy Pablo for a few months now. I randomly discovered this song on YouTube, of all places. And this Norwegian indie pop-rock band has been climbing the social  ranks of music pretty quickly, considering they performed at Coachella just over a week ago.

Favorite Lyric: “What a sick, sick feeling, To let you go, my dear”

Slow Dancing In The Dark by Joji

I won’t lie, Joji’s music is typically for those sad boy hours. His 2018 debut album BALLADS 1 is a beautiful mix of really good vocals, heartsick lyrics, sounds of R&B, hip-hop, electronica, and rap. This song is no different.

Favorite Lyric: “You looked at me like I was someone else, oh well”

She Needs Him by Her’s

This band popped up on one of my Spotify Daily Mixes, and I’m so happy they did because there music is the kind of music you can listen to for hours. They’re an indie rock band based in Liverpool England, but a lot of their music pays homage to 80’s pop rock. If you’re looking too have yourself a Sixteen Candles kind of moment, listen to this song.

Favorite Lyric: “Don’t say that she needs him,That she needs him”

Muse by Afro Nostalgia

This is actually the only song I’ve heard by this artist, but it’s so good that I’ve had it on my playlist for months. The song is undoubtedly a love song, but I promise it’s not like the ones you’ve heard before.

Favorite Lyric: “You glow like the flowers do”

Grace by Surfaces

The Surfaces debuted their album Where the Light Is in January of this year, and what I have listened to thus far is soooo good. Their music is the definition of “feel good music”, the lyrics of their songs  are upbeat and their use of a lot of different types instruments is a fun twist.

Favorite Lyric: “I feel ok, you help me see color in a world of grey”

Honesty by Pink Sweat$

This is another artist that is starting to really get noticed, which is to be expected with vocals like his. Both the artist’s personal and musical style are original and intriguing, so if you minute, try out this song but be prepared to be in your feelings.

Favorite Lyric: “Love will happen when it wants”

The Night Song by Ravyn Lenae

This is the song you put on when you’re getting ready to go out. Without fail, everytime I put this song I my mood gets instantly better. It’s different, it’s genuine, and it’s a song with a whole lot of playfulness.

Favorite Lyric: “Oo, I like my hair today, I look to the clouds, and they waving hey”

All Your Love by Jakob Ogawa

Again, if you’re into music that’s a little unusual, this song is for you. In fact, any song by Jakob Ogawa will satisfy that need. His music and vocals are in this song especially are unreplicable.

Favorite Lyric: “There are times we tend, To play along although we’re wrong”

Lucy by Still Woozy

Still Woozy’s music is pretty funky. The best way I can describe it, is to say that it is experimental rock with elements of pop. It may not be for everyone, but his musical style brings something new and refreshing to an audience, and this song is worth a listen.

Favorite Lyric: “But let me see, what’s on your mind?”

Amphetamine by Smino

This artist and this song is a recent find and I can confidently say it’s becoming one of my favorite’s. I know seven minutes sounds like too long, but once you hear it, you’ll no why there was no better way to do it. Keep in mind that the song also features 3 other artists.

Favorite Lyric: “Got no doubt I’ll be alright, If I just make it through the night”

~Bonus~

Golden Hour by Kacey Musgraves

There’s a pretty good chance you’ve might of heard of this song considering the fact Kacey Musgraves shocked many by winning the 2019 Grammy for Album of the Year. However, if you’re not a fan of country (like me), you might have not given it a chance, and I’m here to tell you that’s a mistake.

Favorite Lyric: “But looking through your eyes, it looks like paradise”
