I am an avid proponent of winter fashion. I mean, who doesn’t love a good turtleneck or cozy cable-knit sweater? However, living in Chicago usually means that we have to cover up our favorite cold-weather outfits with big, lumpy jackets for most of the school year. One nice thing (if you want to look at it that way) about living in a cold climate is that the chilly weather tends to stick around until late April, so we can mix our favorite winter pieces with our new spring wardrobe. Try out some of these tips on transitioning out of winter and into spring this season:
-
Layers!
-
We all know Chicago spring is really just a continuation of our bitter-cold winters. Pull your favorite spring sundresses out of hibernation by layering them over a cute turtleneck and some sheer tights.
-
-
Printed Pants
-
Switch things up from your usual black skinny jeans and try on some candy-striped or printed pants. Look for different fits to further customize your outfit!
-
-
Not-So-Mellow Yellow
-
The reality of the matter is that spring is kind of dreary. The sun may be hiding behind looming rain-clouds, but that doesn’t mean you can’t brighten up wardrobe! Yellow was all over the spring 2019 runways this year. Incorporate some bright hues into your outfits this spring by donning a classic yellow raincoat to shield yourself from the inevitable showers.

-
Blazers
-
80’s throwback is all the rage right now. Pay homage to Pretty In Pink-era Molly Ringwald by pairing an oversized blazer with a cool blouse and distressed jeans. Is it professional? Is it casual? It’s the best of both worlds!

Though it may not yet be blue skies and sunny days where you live, it’s never too early to “spring” your wardrobe into the new season! Spring is all about new beginnings and big transitions, so let your bright, trend-setting outfits pull you out of those cold-weather blues!
