After several teasers from Pixar, the first full-length trailer for Toy Story 4 is finally here! The tear-jerking trailer features all of our favorite characters, including Woody, Buzz, Jessie, Rex, Hamm and Bo Peep. And, as you might expect, it is leaving us totally emotional.
The trailer opens up with our favorite sheriff introducing a new toy to the gang — Forky, who is aptly named since he is in fact a fork — in their owner Bonnie’s bedroom, E! News reports. If you recall from Toy Story 3, Andy, who was Woody, Buzz and the rest of the gang’s owner, passed along his trusty pals to the little girl (Bonnie) as he was heading off to college. (Talk about an emotional moment!)
Well, according to Woody, Bonnie made the utensil-turned-toy at school, and Forky, voiced by Tony Hale, is the “most important toy to Bonnie right now.” Realizing how important Forky is to Bonnie, Woody explains to the rest of the toys that they “all have to make sure nothing happens to him.”
However, Forky isn’t up for living life as a toy, as he believes he was made for eating “soup, salad, maybe chili,” and things take a turn for the worst during what appears to be a road trip.
When Forky makes a run for it, Woody is off to save the day and bring joy back to Bonnie.
But as Woody is off to the rescue, he comes across old friends, like Bo Peep, new friends, like carnival toys Ducky and Bunny, and it makes him reevaluate his life as a toy.
“On the road of life, there are old friends, new friends and stories that change you,” the trailer reads.
Set to the tune of the Beach Boys’ song God Only Knows, the trailer’s emotional moments are sure to make you teary-eyed.
In an interview with ET Online, Tim Allen, the voice of Buzz Lightyear, basically confirmed that the film was going to make us all emotional: “The last 12 minutes of that thing is beautiful and wonderful and emotional and [I] literally got choked up. I can’t tell you how simple it is but how wonderfully emotional it” gets.
So do Woody and Forky make it back to Bonnie? Is Buzz Lightyear able to save them? It looks like we’ll have to wait until this summer to find out. All we know is that we’ll probably have to bring tissues with us.
Toy Story 4 hits theaters June 21st.
