You might have heard a lot of talk about the issue of climate change and its drastic effects on our planet that are ensuing as of right now. Well, that’s because it’s something you should definitely be aware of. Climate change essentially effects all of us and will alter the way we live including our physical health, agriculture and ecosystems. However, now more than ever, this environmental issue has become a major concern taken up by young people, specifically students who are aware that action needs to be taken. Just this past Friday, March 15, large amounts of students from all over the world skipped school in protest of climate change – it was the first ever climate change protest. Started by Greta Thunberg, a 16 year old Swedish student, the purpose of the protest was to spark activism in tackling the potential threats it possesses against our planet. While the protest was in itself a grand display of activism, the most compelling element of the strike was the young activists pleading for change. It’s inspiring to know that the younger generation isn’t waiting for change to happen but is actually fighting to make it happen.
