Not traveling this spring break? Although it seems like less than a favorable option, staying having a week to yourself at home can be turned into something positive with the right attitude. Think of it as a time for catching up, self-care, and relaxation. You might not be on a tropical beach or hitting the slopes, but a mental vacation is easily accessible. Here are a few ideas on things to do for your spring break at home:

1) Take a day trip – Day trips are often overlooked. It’s all the fun without the commitment, at half the expense. You’d be surprised about the adventures and fun that’s available to you within a 2-hour radius of your house! Do some online research to find an exciting place to visit that’s within driving distance. It can be a cool coffee shop or restaurant you’ve been wanting to try out, a scenic walking trail, or even a town that has a quaint downtown area with good shopping spots. Day trips are even more enjoyable when you have a buddy to go with, so ask a friend or a family member if they have a free day to go with you.
2) Grab dinner with an old friend – Being back in your hometown provides the perfect opportunity to reconnect with people you haven’t seen in a while. Sometimes it takes a lot of effort to reach out to someone from your past, but it’s always rewarding to catch up again. Spring break is the perfect time to do a dinner like this if it seems as though you can never find the time to meet up with someone because of two busy schedules. If you aren’t vacationing for spring break, take advantage of the extra time you have to do something that you’ve been meaning to do for a while, like this.

3) Organize/Plan Ahead – Sometimes when you’re busy, it can be hard to take a step back and do the necessary thing: re-organize. If you’ve got extra time on your hands, spend it being productive! One great idea is to organize your planner or calendar for the final month and a half that’s left of school. Write down all your future assignments, things you plan to do and get done, and other important events. Having this with you as you finish up the semester will be exponentially helpful for time management purposes. It’ll only take up a small chunk of your time to do, and yet it will be one of the most useful tools to have going forward.

4) Do Some Online Shopping – Ok, we know this may be a slightly more toxic activity than the rest, but for many, online shopping is a form of self-care. Take the time to go through your closet and clean out everything you haven’t worn in the past 6 months. Live by Marie Kondo’s words, “Does this item bring me joy?” If it doesn’t, toss it to make room for something that does. March is a great time to get some retail therapy done, as many stores are bringing out their spring and summer collections. Don’t go crazy by any means, but get a few items that will bring you joy to make up for your spring break blues.
