If you are planning on going with 20 of your closest friends to an all-inclusive resort where there will be booze cruises and your night doesn’t end until 5 in the morning this article is NOT for you. This article is for all of the people, like myself, who, whether by choice or not, decided to have a more tame spring break. There is a large perk to this type of spring break; this time gives us the opportunity to recharge and come back to Colgate fully refreshed and ready to take on the last bit of the year. Here are five ways to relax and recharge:

Meditate:

For some, meditation comes easily. They can just sit down, close their eyes, and immediately enter a world of zen. I am not one of those people, but I do believe that meditation, when successful, can be extremely relaxing. For us beginners, there are so many apps that can lead you through the process. One great one is called Calm. The app can help with not only meditation but also sleep and general relaxation. I highly recommend if you have just ten minutes to spare in your day! Exercise:

  • Some might not be so sold on this suggestion, but everyone defines exercise in their own way. For me, some days it’s simply doing a two-minute stretch followed by a nap on my yoga mat. Sometimes I even just put on my workout clothes and call it a day. On the rare occasion that I do actually go for a run, that feels great too! However you choose to define a workout, it can help tremendously with not only making you feel healthier and happier, but that feeling of accomplishment helps you to relax a bit.

Cook:

  • Depending on the person, cooking can either be the most stressful thing or the most relaxing thing. The key to making this an enjoyable activity is to pick something with few ingredients and little steps. If you’re choosing this method to relax, it can be fun to scroll through BuzzFeed tasty and pick something that looks good. Then turn on some music and start cooking. It might be a fail, but hopefully you had fun along the way and got to spend some quality time with your loved ones while you were at it.

Get Crafty:

  • This personally is my favorite. I would NOT call myself an artist, but crafting is one of my favorite ways to relax. My biggest tip here is when going into a project don’t have a very specific view of what you would like it to look like in the end. Instead, enjoy the time you had while making it and choose a buddy to craft with you. I sound like a middle-aged mother, but crafting can be very therapeutic. It also lasts forever, so if you choose to make a scrapbook about your first semester of college, you’ll have those memories forever.

Pamper Yourself:

  • Whether big or small, this is always a win. Sometimes it’s as simple as buying a bath bomb, lighting a candle, and drawing a bath while watching One Tree Hill (my personal favorite). Or, if your lucky and you have a vacation destination planned for spring break, splurge and buy yourself a massage, You won’t realize how much you need it until you get it, and you will thank yourself later, trust me. Treat yo’ self

My hometown is Manhattan Beach, California, and Colgate is such an amazing and special place to me (despite getting used to the brutal winters)! I love social media, writing, and photography, and can't wait to share all of the events, trending topics, and news happening at Colgate this coming semester!
