When it comes to Valentine’s Day, usually the first thought that comes to mind is a significant other, going on dates and getting dozens of roses, romantic gestures. While this may be the way that Valentine’s Day roles out for many people, for those of us who are spending this holiday of love single, unable to see our significant other, or a multitude of other ways that do not involve much love, it may bring up less happy-go-lucky feelings about this holiday. To bring the joy of Valentine’s Day to all of us, I have come up with a few ideas of ways to spread the love on this wonderful day.
Have a cookie baking party.
Get together with some of your girlfriends and bake cookies, make chocolate candies, and put tons of heart sprinkles on top of EVERYTHING! Spend this holiday with the girls you love and eat your heart out! It will remind you of all the love you get from your besties and give you a day to appreciate them even more.
Make a card for a peer or teacher.
I know it seems scary to give a card to someone that you are not as close with, it will bring a lot of joy to them. Take a risk and make a bold move if you happen to have a crush or just write a nice note to someone you admire. It may be terrifying, but it could be that one step you never knew you needed to take! And who knows. . . maybe you’ll even end up with a date!
Watch a happy movie with a good friend or family member.
Enjoy the company of a friend or a little sibling, take them out for a snack and a movie. Or, since we are all college students and obviously broke, have them over your dorm, buy some snacks with your SFA dollars, and watch a movie on Netflix on your laptop! You can laugh and talk about the movie and spend some quality time with someone you love.
Make a fun snack with your siblings.
Although siblings are inevitably annoying, give yourself one day or even an hour to embrace the joy they bring to your life. Hang out with them and try to get along (I know it might be difficult, but they will really appreciate it. . . probably). Tell them something that you love about them, and maybe even give them a hug.
Give yourself some love.
While making others feel loved is wonderful, loving yourself goes above all else. Do your own personal spa night, filled with a bubble bath or hot shower, a face mask and some relaxation. Do something that you haven’t done in a while, an old hobby that got away from you. Embrace the love that you can give to yourself and give yourself at least 10 compliments because you are wonderful and unique girl!!
Remember, you don’t need to be in a relationship to make this holiday special. . . spread the love to everyone in your life. It will bring them joy, and you as well.
