Oh, February. For some, this is the month of love and romance with Valentine’s Day just around the corner—but for me, this is my time to get it together and catch up on my favorite shows on Netflix.
Grab your fur baby, because even they’ll love some of what’s coming to your screens, or another cuddle buddy (or just curl up alone under your blanket) and check out everything coming to Netflix this February:
1. Velvet Buzzsaw – February 1
Velvet Buzzsaw is a horror film starring Jake Gyllenhaal as Morf Vandewalt, and Rene Russo as Rhodora Haze.
After paintings of an unknown artist are discovered, a supernatural force enacts revenge on those who have allowed their own greed to get in the way of art. With a synopsis like that, this film has to be interesting.
2. Jaws Trilogy – February 1
This classic is finally swimming its way into Netflix—sans blood, of course.
When a young woman is killed by a shark while skinny-dipping near the tourist town of Amity Island, police chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) wants to close the beaches, but mayor Larry Vaughn (Murray Hamilton) stops him, fearing that the loss of tourist revenue will cripple the town. Ichthyologist Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) and grizzled ship captain Quint (Robert Shaw) offer to help Brody capture the killer beast, and the three engage in an epic battle of man vs. nature.
3. Pretty in Pink – February 1
This ’80s romcom classic is a perfect movie to watch this Valentine’s Day.
Pretty in Pink revolves around Andie (Molly Ringwald), an outcast who hangs out with her older boss (Annie Potts), who owns the record store where she works, and her classmate Duckie (Jon Cryer), who has a crush on her. When one of the popular kids at school, Blane (Andrew McCarthy), asks Andie out, it seems too good to be true. As Andie starts falling for Blane, she begins to realizes that dating someone from a different social sphere is not that easy.
4. Russian Doll – February 1
An original Netflix series created by Leslye Headland, Natasha Lyonne, AND Amy Poehler? HECK YES.
According to the Netflix, this comedy follows a young woman named Nadia who keeps dying and reliving her 36th birthday party. Think of it as a funny yet deadly version of Groundhog Day.
5. The Umbrella Academy – February 15
As one YouTube comment mentioned, this is “X-Men if they all listen to My Chemical Romance.” This Netflix series is based on the Eisner award-winning comics and graphic novels created and written by Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance, and illustrated by Gabriel Bá.
The Umbrella Academy follows the estranged members of a dysfunctional family of superheroes as they work together to solve their adoptive father’s mysterious death while dealing with their own divergent personalities and abilities.
