Since the 70’s punk rock movement, every year and every season top designer from Balenciaga to Saint Laurent have constantly pulled inspiration from the punk rock movement. Punk fashion is often expressed so boldly and wildly on the runway. These daring looks aren’t so typical for your everyday look. However, adding just small amounts of punk flare, can give you the spice your look needs and will be sure to turn heads (in a good way). Below is a list of some quick and affordable items to add a little punk spice to your closet.

#1 Plaid

ASOS:  $44 coat

Nordstrom / Topshop: $95 plaid pants

Lulus: $94 coat

Lil gal: $33 top

Steve Madden: $40 handbag

Forever 21: $36 boots

Fashion Nova: $20 plaid pants

Plaid can be used to create any look whether it’s grown and chic or young and edgy. Plaid is a bold print. So, it is best paired with matching neutral colors. My favorite plaid look is a neutral color crop sweater paired with high waist plaid pants and dark make-up, or a plaid top paired with ripped jeans with leggings underneath and a plaid purse. Or you can swap the ripped jeans and plaid purse out for leather pants and a fur purse.

#2 Leather

Forever 21: $20 leather pants

Wish: $14 leather jacket

Pretty Little Thing: $28 leather skirt

Target: $38 booties

Nasty Gal: $35 leather pants

Wearing leather is the easiest way to add a little edge to your look and it’s perfect for the cold seasons. In addition, leather can be paired with practically anything. I love a complete head to toe leather outfit with a long coat for a pop of elegance.

#3 Thigh-High Boots

ASOS: $27 thigh-high boots

ASOS: $52 thigh high boots

Wish: $7 thigh high boots

Thigh-high boots are a must-have in general for fall and winter. For a punk look, you can pair any thigh-high boots with any of the looks mentioned in the last two sections or you can pair the shoes with a short black leather dress and a plaid purse.

It’s so easy to add a small touch of punk to your wardrobe. Some of these items may already be in your closet and they are so versatile, that you can achieve many other looks with these items. To show us how you add a little punk spice to your wardrobe, post a picture of yourself wearing your punk outfit on to Instagram, and hash-tag HerCampus.
