About two months ago, I watched a documentary called “What the Health.” At the end of it, I saw meat and dairy in a new light. One of my classes, “Advertising and Consumerism,” had a two week section on the factory farming industry, sugar industry and so forth. I decided recently to only eat a plant-based diet. The only exception for me right now is dairy because I have an unnatural obsession with cheese. I am trying everyday, little by little, to cut down on it as much as I can. Regardless, I rarely eat meat and the only time I might is if it’s a holiday like Thanksgiving or Christmas. Below, I’ve listed some simple plant-based snacks that I love and I hope you will to.
1. Hummus with Pita Chips
Absolutely delicious! There are so many different kinds of hummus now like roasted red pepper, spinach and even chocolate! There is a hummus for every occasion.Â
2. Oatmeal
I have loved oatmeal ever since I was little. You can purchase a huge box of oats at your local market and mix it with anything from maple syrup to different kinds of purees. I love topping mine off with cinnamon sugar and blueberries. Oatmeal typically calls for milk but I always use water and it tastes just as great!
3. Cucumbers with Salad Dressing
I love putting cucumbers in a bowl of red vinegar and letting it sit. It’s practically a pickle but for some reason I prefer it this way. I cover them in salt and eat away. Cucumbers have so little calories too, so that’s always a plus.Â
4. Avocado on Toast
Avocados are my weakness!! I take a slice of whole grain bread and smear avocado on it. I then will add small tomatoes and basil leaves. So delicious.Â
