I’m not going to sugarcoat it. Glee was a pioneer. Glee did things that no show had done or even thought about doing before. It wasn’t just entertaining ─ it was bold, was unapologetic, had one of the most diverse casts of any popular show for its time, and talked about issues like homophobia and transphobia, religion and tolerance, disability inclusion (even though its disabled characters were played by able-bodied actors ─ it was a step in the right direction for its time) mental health, bullying, and ─ of course ─ show choir. But what made Glee really stand out was its hilarious and ridiculous subplots that still have me laughing to this day.
If you haven’t had the pleasure to watch all 121 episodes of Glee, please email me for my Netflix password and have at it. But to tide you over until I reply, here is a viral Twitter thread that gives you the gist of what Glee is all about.
@alisonluffs’s tweet about funny Glee plotlines racked in the replies in one of the best twitter threads of all time. Here is a list of some of my favorites:
1. When Sam successfully seduces Quinn by serenading her with Justin Bieber songs for a week

2. When Finn made a grilled cheese that had the face of Jesus on it, named Grilled Cheesus, which he prayed to for several days before eating it and singing “Losing My Religion”

3. When they had an episode where everyone in the club lost their virginity because they were in the school play and the director told them they needed to have sex to act better

4. The time they talked about teen pregnancy by singing a classic Queen song as their classmate births her child

5. When they had bisexuality awareness

6. Here’s just a list of some plotlines that still make me chuckle

But truly, this tweet sums it up the most. Glee was a true gift from the universe that I cherish and am grateful for and will always look back on fondly.
