One of the worst parts about the transition into fall is the way our skin reacts to colder temperatures. You may find yourself reaching for chapstick five times a day or applying a hefty amount of moisturizer before going to bed. If this isn’t doing the trick there are a few easy steps to add to your routine to prevent your face from drying out.
Chemical Exfoliators
Exfoliating is so important when dealing with dry skin but did you know it’s possible to over exfoliate? The harshness of salt or sugar scrubs on the face can actually make matters worse so it’s easier to go with a chemical exfoliator. Alpha Hydroxy Acid, AHA for short is good for normal to dry skin and it safely exfoliates the face while still locking in moisture. Glossier’s “The Solution” is great option and the bottle lasts for a few months with everyday use.
Choosing the Right Moisturizer
Not every moisturizer you pick will give your face the hydration it deserves. It’s best to pick an oil based lotion because this will give your skin the best chance at retaining moisture. Essential oils are also really good for dryness so applying a lavender face cream before bed will not only be relaxing but hydrating as well!
Don’t Forget the SPF
Now that the sun isn’t shining every day you might think it’s time to put the sunscreen away, but you’re wrong! Dermatologists have recently discovered that even the lights from our phone or computer screens can actually be damaging to our skin. There are some great options out there such as Tarte’s “Mineral Powder Sunscreen.” You can easily dust it all over your face and its convenient packaging makes it great for traveling or just to throw in your purse! Tinted moisturizers are another good choice if you’re going for a light makeup look while staying protected.
It’s so easy to get caught up in our busy lives and ignore our skin but after all the sun exposure from the summer, it’s important to take care of it and have a set routine. It takes no longer than 5 minutes and your skin will thank you!
