Arguably the most important holiday is approaching fast: U.S. Election Day! If you’re registered to vote and haven’t already (shoutout to all my fellow absentee gals out there) November 6th is your big day. If you’re 18 and not registered to vote: ???? I won’t repeat all of the legitimate, crucial reasons that you’ve heard time and again on the utter importance of exercising your right to vote, but I will assume that you’re going to hop in your set of wheels on Tuesday, scoot on over to your nearest polling station, and cast your ballot. Whether you’ve already voted or will on Tuesday, voting fills you with elation, a sense of pride, and if you’re anything like me, you’ll feel quite #grown. Below I’ve listed a few bops that will keep you riding what I like to refer to as the “voting high.”

  • Respect Yourself by The Staple Singers

Because if you vote, you obviously respect yourself.

  • Save Me by Aretha Franklin

To all of the candidates I voted for, please, I’m begging you.

  • What’s Going On by Marvin Gaye

I can’t explain it to you. Please listen to this song.

  • Ball of Confusion (That’s What the World is Today) by The Temptations

Doesn’t the title give it away?

  • A Change is Gonna Come by Sam Cooke

It’ll only come if you vote.

  • Big Yellow Taxi by Joni Mitchell

How could I make a list of songs and not include Joni Mitchell? Let’s consider mother nature this election day!

  • Everyday People by Sly & The Family Stone

Yes! Everyday people participating in a democracy and contributing their opinion! A concept!

  • Under Pressure by Queen

No pressure! But you need to vote. Maybe a lil pressure.

  • Heroes by David Bowie

Your vote not only affects yourself but also everyone around you. Think about that.

  • Changes by David Bowie (again)

Let’s make some this election day.

I really threw it back with some of these. Enjoy! But most importantly, make sure you read up on all of the candidates pre-vote. Make sure you’ve researched their track record and what they claim to do.

Also, unrelated PSA but, don’t forget to drink water!

Happy voting!
