Speaking with grace and poise, Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, looks to her audience, “Because yes—women’s suffrage is about feminism, but feminism is about fairness.”
The Duchess honored New Zealand’s 125th anniversary of women’s suffrage at its celebration on October 28 by giving an impressive speech. As she recognizes how significant the milestone is, she also addresses the bigger picture behind it.
“Suffrage is not simply about the right to vote but also about what that represents,” she continues. “The basic and fundamental right of being able to participate in the choices for your future and that of your community.”
Markle emphasizes the fairness that feminism brings. Women’s suffrage does not just give women the right to vote ,but also stands for every person’s freedom to be involved. Everyone holds the entitlement to be heard. Through participation, they are able to be a part of the world around them.
In the United States, the midterm elections will take place on November 6. The push for encouraging everyone to vote this upcoming selection proved to be stronger than ever.
