I have never liked horror movies. I don’t understand how blood and gore, jumpscares, demons, and more can be something fun for people to watch. And why would you turn to movies to scare yourself when all you have to do is read the news to feel the same way? Whether you are a hater of scary movies, need something you can watch with a younger crowd, or just need an escape from the scary real world, there are plenty of wholesome spooky season movies to watch.
The Haunted Mansion: What’s not to love about Eddie Murphy?
Monster House: An animated movie that is perfectly creepy/spooky without being scary
Coraline: This is my favorite Halloween movie and I love how it was made by using 3D stop-motion
E.T., The Extra Terrestrial: Not a scary movie, but when the house is under quarantine I definitely got a little freaked out.
Harry Potter: Any and all of the movies fit the mood for Halloween season. If you are watching with someone who has never seen them before start from number one!
Ghostbusters: Who you gonna call? The first or remade version?
The Addams Family: Morticia Addams, inspiring glam-goths everywhere
The Nightmare Before Christmas: Sure it’s Christmas but it’s Halloween too. Watch it twice a year for double the fun
Halloweentown: The Disney Channel Classic
Scooby-Doo: Monsters Unleashed is a little more spooky, but take your pick of the two!
Hocus Pocus: Check your local theater for showings leading up to Halloween!
Many of the movies can be found on streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon (sometimes costs to rent/buy the movie). Some are available to watch on Freeform online for free when connected to your T.V. provider. Pair the movie with some apple cider, a cozy blanket and friends, and you have a perfect Halloween night in.
