With the spooky season in full effect and Halloween just a few days away, many of us are feeling the need to catch up on scary movies and TV shows before the month is over. If you’re anything like me, you spend more time trying to find something to watch on Netflix than actually watching it. When searching for movies, the first place most people think of is Netflix. This makes sense: they have a wide range of titles for people of all ages and interests. But, trying to make a selection can be a semi-difficult and time-consuming task. So, to save you a little bit of time this spooky season, I compiled a list and brief overview of some of the best Halloween-themed shows available on Netflix. For diversification purposes, I included a thriller, a documentary-style show, and a comedy.

  • American Horror Story

This one’s for all you adrenaline junkies who like scary, twisted scenes that linger in your mind long after the credits have ended. Although it was created by the co-producers of Glee, this thriller produces feelings very far from it. Each season is completely different from the last, taking place in a completely different location with different characters and storylines, they are each like a miniseries. However, each episode features the same pool of actors, playing different characters in each season.

  • Haunted

Haunted is a documentary-style account of people who have experienced supernatural forces first hand. Their stories are re-created through visual depictions of the events as they are told. This narrative style with real-life interviews makes each episode much more believable and even more chilling. I highly recommend this show for those who want to watch stories of haunting from a more realist, firsthand perspective instead of the usual dramatizations.

  • Santa Clarita Diet

If you love quirky, somewhat gory, weird family comedy shows, this is the one for you. Drew Barrymore’s character, Sheila, goes through a dramatic transformation that turns her into a flesh-eating member of the undead. However, she looks, talks, and acts like a normal person. Together, Sheila and her husband, Joel (Timothy Olyphant) must figure out ways to balance her zombie-esque habits with their bougie California realtor lifestyle. It’s a fun must-see show that will still leave you in suspense, lots of laughter guaranteed.

Check out one of this shows and finish the spooky season the right way!
