Disney Conspiracy Theories That Will Leave You Shook

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LMU chapter.

As an avid user of the internet, I usually try not to get caught up in fan-made conspiracy theories on the basis of preventing myself from my having my “ideal perception” of said bodies of work ruined. With that said, earlier this week I came across a post on Instagram about Phineas and Ferb that pretty much made me question my entire childhood and instead of protecting what was left of my Disney innocence, I decided to investigate further. Thanks to a lot of guidance from my friend Emi, I knew exactly where to look. So now here I am, ready to present to you some fan-made theories about Disney that blew my mind. Let’s begin!

Frozen, Tangled, and The Little Mermaid are all connected:

So, as we find out in Frozen, Elsa and Anna’s parents die due to their ship crashing on their way to a wedding right? And we know that they die three years before the events of the movie take place. So what a coincidence it is that the events of Tangled took place 3 years prior to the release of Frozen? This makes it very likely that there is a possibility that it was Flynn and Rapunzel’s wedding that her parents were attending. But oh no! On the way there, their ship sinks! Rapunzel and Flynn must feel so bad, just bad enough that three years later, they decide to attend Elsa’s coronation. To some, the sight of Flynn and Rapunzel at Elsa’s coronation might just be another easter egg planted by Disney. However, within the theory it all makes sense. If that’s not crazy enough for you, I am not done yet. Thanks to the work of a theorist on Tumblr and geography, there is evidence that Elsa and Anna’s parents’ ship might have been the sunken ship that Ariel and Flounder are seen exploring in The Little Mermaid. MIND BLOWN!!

But wait, what about Tarzan?

There is another popular theory that builds upon the previous theory that I have mentioned. This one connects Tarzan to the Frozen narrative. Based on some comments made by Chris Buck, the co-producer of both Tarzan and Frozen, on a Reddit “Ask Me Anything,” fans are starting to speculate that maybe Elsa and Anna’s parents didn’t die on that ship. Instead, maybe they somehow got washed away and ended up on the shore of a jungle. There they build a tree house and they have Tarzan; however, they also get eaten by a leopard which means that Tarzan is left to be raised by gorillas. So, is Tarzan the long lost brother of Elsa and Anna? Although there are some problems existing in this theory, the resemblance between their parents is uncanny.

Carl from Up actually dies at the beginning of the movie

This is just a quick (and honestly quite depressing) theory presented by a Pinterest User

The Pixar Theory:

The Pixar Theory was created by a man named Jon Negroni. There is no way on earth that I can every single detail of this theory but it is a MUST READ as Jon Negroni has single-handedly managed to connect every single Pixar Movie together into one cohesive timeline. And I do have to does update his theory with every new Pixar movie that comes out, his hypothesis is continually proven to be correct. Or at least in my eye it seems to be. I will give you a very brief explanation of this theory; however, I also must insist that you take some time out of your day to do a quick Google search in order to give it proper justice. Basically, Negroni states that all of the Pixar movies take place within a singular universe. All of the movies influence each other based on their position on his timeline, which currently starts with Brave and ends with Monsters Inc. The most integral character in The Pixar Theory is the witch from Brave, who is actually Boo from Monster’s Inc. who has figured out how to travel through time via advanced technology that involves opening doors. As I said before, this is a very complicated theory and it is one of the most mind-boggling things that I have ever come across. Look it up.

The Phineas and Ferb Theory:

To put it simply, this is the theory that wrecked me. In fact, I sent the post that I saw to my friend and her response was a simple: “Nope.”

The Phineas and Ferb theory essentially says that Candice has lost her mind due to a traumatic experience that happened in her life. Phineas was bullied a lot as a kid because of his nerdiness and one day a bully punched him in the head too hard and ended up killing him. In order to cope, Candice’s subconscious has created a world in which Phineas is still alive and makes crazy contraptions with their mostly mute stepbrother Ferb. The reason why her mom never sees them is because they aren’t there. Interestingly enough, there is a surprising piece of evidence that adds some substance to this theory that has to do with the person who Phineas was originally based off of.

So yeah, I might have possibly just ruined your childhood or blown your mind or maybe even both. Whichever one it ended up being, I’m not sorry for it. If you are interested in this topic there are plenty more theories that I did not mention including Belle and Jane being related, Aladdin being set in a post-apocalyptic future, Mother Gothel is the Evil Queen, etc. Although these are only theories, the evidence for some of them makes quite a compelling argument. True or not true, I think that Disney conspiracy theories are very fun to explore and to talk about with your friends and family.
