Mailboxes are overflowing with campaign propaganda, voter registration is slowly closing, and November 6th is quickly approaching. Midterm elections are less than a month away and it is imperative that everyone who is qualified to vote completes voter registration.
Regardless of your political affiliation, having the ability to vote is a civic duty commonly taken for granted amongst Americans. As voters, we must take the time to educate ourselves on each candidate’s social, political, and economic platforms. Take thr time to attend local debates, watch the news, and read each candidate’s platform – it’ll be worth it when it comes time to vote.
Just 100 years ago women were denied the right to vote. However, we are now more empowered than ever and can utilize our voices, our platforms, and our education to make a difference. 256 women are qualified candidates for this upcoming midterm election. As young women, we look up to these candidates as role models who are breaking glass ceilings and defying history. However, we should not vote for a woman just because of her sex. Not all women fight for the rights of other women, so take the time to educate yourself on each candidate, formulate your own opinions, and find your voice!
Vote for the women who can’t, vote for the children who have not found their voice, vote for the change you want to see, but most importantly, vote because you can.
