This Friday, October 19th, the new Halloween movie will premiere in theaters & if you’re anything like me, you’ve been counting down the days for months. The new movie is the 11th movie in the Michael Myers franchise and I couldn’t be more excited. I saw my first Michael Myers movie when I was three years old and have been addicted since. I know I know, what parent lets their three-year-old watch Michael Myers, but I insisted & fell in love with him and horror movies With the new movie, I thought I’d take the time to explain every movie since some connect while others don’t, and all ten movies kill off characters, then bring them back and throw in new ones that don’t make sense.
*Warning there are spoilers
1. Halloween (1978)
In the 1978 Halloween movie we are first introduced to Michael Myers & Laurie Strode. In this movie we witness Michael’s first murder, his older sister. He is locked away for 15 years but escapes and returns to Haddonfield, Illinois on a mission, kill Laurie Strode. Michael murders three of Laurie’s friends before getting shot multiple times by his psychiatrist, Dr. Loomis. The movie ends with Laurie being transported to a local hospital.
Michael Myers Kill Count: 6 people & 2 dogs
2. Halloween II (1981)
Halloween II takes place immediately after the first movie. We follow Laurie Strode to the hospital after her brutal encounter with Michael. Plot twist, despite being shot multiple times, Michael is alive & well, still on a mission to kill Laurie. We later learn that Laurie was adopted as a baby and even bigger plot twist…IS MICHAEL’S YOUNGER SISTER. Dr. Loomis eventually figures this out and goes to save Laurie. He ends up creating a gas explosion in which both him and Michael should have died in, but somehow are still alive.
Michael Myers Kill Count: 10
3. Halloween 3: Season of the Witch
I’ve honestly never seen this movie because well the third movie in the Halloween series – Halloween III: Season of the Witch actually has nothing to do with any of the other movies & Michael Myers isn’t even in it. Moving on…
4. Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988)
In Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers we are introduced to Jamie Lloyd, the daughter of Laurie Strode and niece of Michael Myers. Michael Myers escapes once again, (after being severely burned & in a coma for the last decade) this time on a mission to kill his niece. Laurie Strode is dead in this movie, but not by Michael. After unsuccessfully trying to kill his niece, Michael is presumed dead after being shot multiple times & involved in an explosion. His niece on the other hand, stabs her adoptive mother multiple times following in her uncle’s footprints.
Michael Myers Kill Count: 17
5. Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989)
One year after Jamie Lloyd escapes death, Michael comes back for her. Jamie is living in a children’s psychiatric center since she killed her adoptive mother. Michael is unsuccessful with killing Jamie again but they both get kidnaped and are both presumed dead.
Michael Myers Kill Count: 12
6. Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995)
Following their kidnappings, Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers picks up ten years later with Jamie giving birth (we are unsure who the father is) but obviously Michael wants them both dead and goes after them. Michael murders Jamie but is unable to find the baby. This movie is probably the weirdest and worst movie of the series. Basically there is a cult that wants Michael but he ends up killing all of them and never getting the baby.
Michael Myers Kill Count: 17
7. Halloween H2O: Twenty Years Later (1998)
The sixth movie in the series, Halloween H2O: Twenty Years Later is where things get confusing. Disregard movies four and five, since Laurie Strode is alive and Jamie Lloyd does not exist at all. In this movie, Laurie Strode is mother to a son who has just turned seventeen. Laurie was seventeen when Michael first tried to kill her, so obvi he comes back and tries to kill her AND her son. The movie ends with Laurie murdering who she thinks is her brother Michael.
Michael Myers Kill Count: 6
8. Halloween: Resurrection (2002)
Turns out who Laurie killed in the last movie was a paramedic Michael set up. Laurie is in a psychiatric hospital and Michael comes for her again, this time he wins & murders Laurie. All of this happens within the first fifteen minutes and then we watch a game show happening in the original Myers house. Long story short, Michael goes back to his childhood home (he’s been living in the basement) and murders the majority of the game show contestants. Police think they kill him, but he is immortal and comes back to life in the morgue.
Michael Myers Kill Count: 10
9. Halloween (2007)
Now we restart from the beginning, this 2007 remake is the ‘zombie’ version of Michael Myers. In this remake, we get a little more insight in Michael’s childhood life. He also kills three people instead of just his sister like in the original movie. But like the first one, he is after Laurie Strode & is unsuccessful in murdering her.
Michael Myers Kill Count: 18
10. Halloween II (2009)
Like the originals, Halloween II (2009) correlates to the first remake. But this time we follow Laurie Strode’s life a year after her first encounter with Michael. Laurie again discovers she is the youngest Myer. This movie is weird, young Michael is in it along with adult Michael. Basically, Michael wants to kill his sister in hopes of bringing his family back together (weird, I know). The movie ends with Michael Myers ACTUALLY dying & Laurie wearing his mask.
Michael Myers Kill Count: 17
11. Halloween (2018)
The new Halloween, premiering October 19th, disregards all other movies minus the first two. Laurie Strode is alive and well in the new movie & ready to take on Michael Myers for one last time (maybe?)
