It is with a heavy heart that I heard the news;
I saw the word ‘victory’ associated with Kavanaugh.
In what world is this verdict a victory?
It shouldn’t be our world, but it is.
It is with a heavy mind that I think about consequences;
I ponder pain that Kavanaughs everywhere elicit.
In what nightmare is collective suffering worth overlooking?
It shouldn’t be our world, but it is.
It is with a heavy conscience that I mourn;
Brave people came forth, but our belief in survivors was buried.
In what world are blatant truths disregarded for “fake news”?
It shouldn’t be our world, but it is.
It shouldn’t be our world, but it is.
And you know what?
Our world is also what it is because
We all have a voice.
It is with a triumphant “fuck you” that I registered to vote.
It is with a profound “hear me roar” that I registered to vote.
It is an exercise of my civic duty to speak my mind, and the only way to do that is to: VOTE
Moments in history like this exist… it shouldn’t be our world, but it is;
But alas, you and I, we are part of the people to let our voices be H E A R D
So vote. VOTE. Register.
Because for every moment in history
that makes us want to never speak again,
We can find the power to speak out.
It is with my voice—that is worth hearing—
in which I share this spoken word;
I urge, implore, beg, expect, encourage you to find your voice too.
