In honor of World Mental Health Day, here are 5 helpful tips to keep your mental health intact:
1. Take Care of Your Body
It may seem strange, but caring for your body plays such a huge role in having a healthy mind. Drink water, exercise, sleep, eat well, etc. It can make a huge difference!
2. Â Surround yourself with a good support system
It is amazing what a night out (or in) with your friends can do, especially if you have been going through a rough patch. Surround yourself with people who build you up, support you, encourage you, and who love you for you!
3. Find positive ways to deal with stress
This time of year, things are getting pretty hectic- deadlines are approaching, midterms are upon us, and we are all ready for a few weeks of relaxation before the cycle starts over. It can be pretty stressful. A good way to manage all of the stress is to do things that you enjoy: watch Netflix, go for a walk, exercise, etc. Whatever makes you happy!
4. Give yourself enough “Me” time
With so much stress piling on, it is sometimes hard to remember that you have a life outside of school or work. While scribbling due dates in your calendar, remember to work in some time for yourself, too!
5. Get help if you need it
The most important thing to remember when it comes to your mental health is to get help if you really need it. Not everyone can deal with things alone, and that is okay. If you find yourself in a scary or dangerous place mentally, or you just need someone to talk to, reach out. It is okay to get help!
