Disney Channel is well known for many cinematic creations. But, my personal favorite collection of movies is the Halloween-themed ones. During the month of October, Disney Channel will replays movies. Every time one comes on I get excited and turn into a ten-year-old girl all over again. Needless to say, I recommend watching these Halloween Disney classics.
1.     Hocus Pocus
If you haven’t seen Hocus Pocus, then what have you been doing with your life? I am a huge fan of anything that has to do with witches, so it’s no surprise that this is my ultimate favorite movie, I will watch it any time during the year. This classic was released in 1993 and stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler, and Kathy Najimy as the wicked witches known as the Sanderson Sisters. They are brought back to life for one night on Halloween by Max Dennison (Omri Katz) when he lights the black flame candle to impress Allison (Vinessa Shaw). Followed by his younger sister Dani (Thora Birch) and the talking cat Binx (voiced by Jason Marsden), the group tries to stop the witches from sucking the lives out of all the children of Salem.
2.     Scream Team
I can’t stress enough how fantastic this movie is. It’s a perfect combination of humor and horror—it actually freaked me out a bit as child. It stars Kathy Najimy, Tommy Davidson, and Eric Idle as spirits that are in charge of collecting newly deceased souls and transporting them to the peaceful after life. But, they are discovered by siblings Ian (Mark Rendall) and Claire Carlyle (Kat Dennings). The kids are trying to save their grandfather’s soul from being taken by Zachariah Kull (Kim Coates) that has a score to settle with the living. Seriously, take the time to watch this movie. You won’t regret it.
3.     Halloweentown franchise
I couldn’t leave out the Halloweentown franchise. I loved these movies so much. Of course, I couldn’t choose just one. Halloweentown, Halloweentown II: Kalabar’s Revenge, and Halloweentown High are all amazing movies (and yes, I know I’m excluding Return to Halloweentown, but in my mind that movie is nonexistent). These movies star the fabulous—and greatly missed—Debbie Reynolds as Agatha Cromwell. She visits her grandchildren Marnie (Kimberly J. Brown), Dylan (Joey Zimmerman), and Sophie (Emily Roeske) and she introduces them to their magical heritage. Throughout the series, they battle forces of evil and come closer as a family.
4.     My Babysitter’s a Vampire
I feel like this is such an underappreciated film. Sure, it’s a little cheesy at points but I love all of it. Again, it ties in humor and a little smidge of horror. In fact, Disney Channel even ran it as a television show for a few seasons. This stars Vanessa Morgan as the babysitting vampire known as Sarah. She is tasked with watching Ethan and his little sister for the night. It isn’t long until Ethan and his best friend Benny are pulled into the supernatural world along side Sarah.
5.     Under Wraps
One night, Marshall, Gilbert, and Amy discover a sarcophagus in a basement. After they stumble across the sarcophagus, they manage to awaken the mummy inside of it. The children have until Halloween night to return Harold the mummy to his resting place or he will cease to exist forever. This movie doesn’t play as much on Disney Channel anymore, but when it does I am sure to watch it. It’s hilarious, heartwarming, and it has a few scares to keep it entertaining even for an adult.
